I never played Halo before and purchased the MCC last year. I haven't played half of Halo 1's campaign and started playing Halo 2 to see if the games got better, but I did not like them at all. The lore is nice, the characters are cool, but the game mechanics are not enjoyable. I don't know if they got better by the time Halo 4 came out, but I prefer Destiny's gameplay by a landslide. The advantage that Halo has over Destiny is the storytelling. Halo crafted an ongoing saga and knows how to integrate it with its fast paced action. Destiny has a great story, but it is not part of the game. They failed to deliver an appropriate campaign that told the story of this wonderful universe and the player's role in it.

I bought the MCC last year too with the intention of playing through all of the Halo games. I bought and played 1 back when it came out on Xbox but stopped about 2/3's of the way through. I tried it again when backwards compatibility came on the 360... i failed to complete that game yet again. With MCC I was determined to play and complete it... and I did... but I didn't enjoy it at all. I've also managed to plough through Halo 2 too but again I didn't particularly enjoy it. It was such a chore it took me 8 months to complete those two games. I started Halo 3 on Saturday and have only two missions to complete. I played and enjoyed Halo 3 when it came out though so that one wasn't totally new to me. I think 3 is way better than the first 2. Glad I finally played and beat them but I will never do so again. Looking forward to finishing 3 and then getting to play 4 which I'm led to believe feels more modern due to ADS etc. Hope so.

If you like the modern feel then play 4. Totally different mechanics and more comparable to destiny than the first.
