After TTK: What Everyone Overlooked During the EU Price/Luke Smith/Red Bull Controversies
– Quest exclusive to Red Bull promotion 9/18/15 – 12/31/15 – No code required to access quest after 1/1/16 – Code for Bonus XP must be redeemed by 7/31/16
I haven't seen anyone address this little factoid gem hidden amongst all the Red Bull leaks and promotional material. If it has I would love to see a link to others thoughts on this idea. The paranoiac in me would say that the controversies mentioned in my headline were masterful bits of PR designed to mask the seeming conclusion that the next DLC post TTK is dropping well into 2016. Consider that the Red Bull promotional material as noted above states the exclusive quest will be available to all players outside of using Red Bull codes beginning January 1st, 2016. To me this indicates that the next DLC will not be forthcoming in the same time frame that The Dark Below was. If there is a quest line in The Taken King why would it be released to everyone else who chose or could not get(the Destiny player base outside of North America) AFTER a new DLC and content was released? That implies one of two things: 1) This is such a ridiculously unimpressive and unnecessary quest line that will have zero bearing on the events of TTK -or- 2) There is no content planned until post 1/1/16 If number one is the case then spend your money or don't spend your money however you see fit. I personally do not drink Red Bull so unless gifted a code from someone who does(and I have some clanmates who are intending to do so) I don't believe I'll be accessing this promotion. However, should the more sinister option of number two be in effect here then much wool is being pulled over the players eyes. My personal opinion based upon the track records of the two previous DLC and their contents leads me to believe this to be the more likely scenario. So, just for intarwebz posterity I am calling it right now: The next Destiny DLC/expansion post The Taken King will not drop until February or March 2016 at the earliest. How do I arrive at this conclusion? Based upon this quest line being exclusive until 12/31/15 and available to all players outside of promotional code use beginning 1/1/16. This suggests that they will give some time for people to play and possibly replay this quest line a few times. I am sure it can be done, based again on current DLC content, in a 5-10 minute sitting but that is just the pessimist in me. If Bungie allow time for this quest line to be played once or twice outside of the exclusivity time frame then let us say they give a few weeks for everyone to add this quest to their Taken King, *ahem*, legend. This puts us comfortably into late January/early February 2016. Assuming Bungie does their usual PR gin up to new content for the next DLC and they don't want to step on any latecomers to this quest line this conceivably puts us into March 2016 for the next Destiny expansion. At this time Bungie/Activision have not garnered enough goodwill with TDB and HoW for many people, myself included, to make me anything but skeptical that the content of The Taken King will get players to March of 2016.
