As long as they don't go overboard, I think they can slow down the TTK a bit by nerfing hand cannons, pulse rifles and shotguns. They are all WAY better than any other option in their class for most situations. The only exception I can think of is the sniper rifle for some maps.

That will balance them with Thorn and The Last Word and give them a chance against those guns.

It's amazing, but it's universal...we all think something needs to be done. I'm sure many of us are enjoying our time with hand cannons and shotguns, but we are all getting bored, as well. You can see it in these forums. It's pervasive. DO SOMETHING BUNGIE.

Edited by robkort: 7/3/2015 7:19:36 AMI would like to see a buff on auto and fusion rifles. But that's me of course...
-
Edited by Creepeth: 7/3/2015 3:59:36 AMI'm okay with either, as long as bungie doesn't go overboard. They have a tendency to do that. Bottom line, something needs to be done. And I love my thorn and shotguns.
-
Bungie? Go overboard? You mean like a 40% Nerf on the Vex? Or maybe multiple nerfs to the AR's. They need to undo the last nerf. AR's were at least still viable before that happened.
-
Yup. They were balanced with hand cannons for a while there. Then the nerf came. I think it wasn't b/c they weren't balanced. It was because they were overplayed. To Bungie, unfortunately, they are one in the same.

Well people liked AR's they were forgiving guns, if you missed some you could still pull through, Pulse rifles are somewhat forgiving, but nowhere near as much. AR's worked well for people new to Crucible and without a lot of skill, just because they were so forgiving. Pulse Rifles are forgiving with a certain level of skill. Scout rifles are not forgiving at all. You need to be pretty spot on to use them in a highly effective manner. Handcannons are in a way highly forgiving as the damage is high so if you miss a few shots the damage is high enough the ones you manage to hit net a kill in most cases. In the hands of decently skilled to highly skilled players, well good god you can take down 2-3 players easily. At this point in time even highly skilled players cannot use AR's effectively, i have 6k kills with my Suros, i was still doing pretty good with it up until february when they smacked it with more nerfs. I tried using it the other day in Crucible, not ToO, not IB, just regular old Crucible. Got absolutely wrecked.

Edited by Creepeth: 7/3/2015 5:16:02 AMIt's that feb nerf that was it. It was 2.01 or something like that. I think right before that patch, autos were on par with hand cannons. Pulse rifles needed that last bump they got, but hand cannons and autos were on par. I think you nailed it thought...people love their ARs. It's forgiving. hand cannons are far less forgiving b/c of the absolute reliance on precision damage. But all that did was turn away casual PVPers. Hardcore PVPers can adjust to any weapon. It's the casuals that only play during Iron Banner now. Trust me, I seem to get matchmade with them all the time.

2-25-15, Patch 1.1.1 The one about weapon rebalance. You got it pretty close. I just do not understand why people cannot get it through their heads, putting AR's to a pre 1.1.1 state would ruin Thorn. It is the primary reason Thorn is so prevalent. Unskilled players trying to use unforgiving pulse rifles to attempt to fight it off, now im not super at Crucible, but even i can kill Thorn users with Read Death and Bad Juju. People seem to forget that Thorn was Buffed on december 1st in hotfix 1.1 pretty much a full 2 months before the second AR nerf. But you didnt hear alot of complaing back then about AR's now did you, no, you got people complaining they couldnt use their handcannons to take down AR users.
-
Yup, therein rise the crux of exactly what happened. Perfectly put timeline of events. Circumstantial evidence that if they brought back pre-1.1.1 (wink) AR, then you would have AR Handcannons and Pulse all balanced. Then that just leaves scout rifles as the ugly step child. sorry if you are one. no offense intended.
-
I mean yeah its all circumstantial, but you dont have to many Nerf thorn posts from before that patch. Mostly after, its a fair assumption to say AR's used to keep HC's in check. Roll them back as a two week test, during a ToO, see what happens.
-
Edited by Creepeth: 7/3/2015 6:26:57 AMagree 1000% I used a thorn back then and neither felt overpowered or underpowered going up against the onslaught vex and suros.
-
I mean Vex Totally needed its nerf. They may have been a little heavy handed, but it is fairly competetive now, i use it often. I miss using my Suros though. Red Death and Bad Juju suffice fairly well. I just think its hilarious that you can provide all the info in the world to people who vehemently oppose any reason why Thorn isnt overused or OP, everytime you provide them with info that points otherwise, they change the subject and get super bent out of shape. Its actually really sad for them when you think about it, they dont have anything better in their lives than the ability to complain about one or two guns in a video game.
