The Time of Speculation
>365 days, BR
The year is 2008. Bungie's latest product, Halo 3: ODST is in the works. Meanwhile, the ever active Bungie is working on something bigger. An open world MMO crossed with an FPS with elements of an RPG. The project would later become known as Destiny. Small, minute leaks would occasionally wriggle their way into the Halo fan base. Dreams of a Halo/COD/Star Wars game danced in their heads. This was the time of Speculation. Nothing was concrete or certain, all we could do, was dream.
The Spilt
>365 days, BR
2010, Halo: REACH has been released to the public. Bungie is ready to move on from Halo. But there is one issue, Microsoft wants more Halo. Their biggest cash cow is the Halo franchise and they're not about to let it go. Enter 343 Industries, ready to pick up Halo and carry on the name. At the same time, Microsoft terminates it's relationship with Bungie. As there is no need for them now that 343 owns the title of Halo. This leaves Bungie and their biggest ambition, Destiny, out on the curb with no one to fund them. Out of the sky like a vulture Activison swoops down upon Bungie. Offering them funding for their momentous project. All is well for now, but Bungie will soon learn to never trust a vulture.
The Time of Uncertainty
365-0 days, BR
Bungie's contract with Activison came with some odds and ends that didn't exactly seem all that consequential at the time. Playstation exclusive items being one of them. However as progress continued, Activison's greed pressed hard on Bungie. The Lead Writer was particularly upset with the way Activison was cutting his story into bite-sized pieces and reselling them as full fledged DLC. He left Bungie in the dust and took most his work with them. Still, Bungie managed to hobble their way into release with what story they had left.
The First Week
1-7 days, PR
The game has launched. Destiny is available to the public. 20+ million players flock to local stores and pick up their copies of the most anticipated game of 2014.
Guardians are created, Classes are picked and weapons are selected as Destiny sets sail. All is well for now, but a darkness is rising amongst the excitement.
That's all I feel I should write for now, more history to come in the near future.
