Its really easy and I don't typically solo nightfalls. I'd say the most difficult part is the first room with the 3 waves. As long as you hang back in the hallway though you're pretty safe and can pick off the ads as they trickle towards you. The wizards might chase you back up the stairs, but can be dealt with quickly if you have a solar rocket or sniper (I used galley/blackhammer). Same goes for the second room; snipe the ogre and yellow bar knight and sprint to the boss. Once you get to phogoth, you can take him out by peeking in and out of the doorway while shooting rockets/snipers and occasionally backpedaling away from the shrieker if needed. Just be careful of the ads that spawn in near the door way, especially if you're shooting rockets.
My load out: word of Crota, blackhammer/icebreaker, gally/hunger of crota

My first ever solo effort was against Phogoth and this was the strategy that I used. Took me a few tries to get past that 3rd wave in the Gatehouse, especially when Mormu, Xol Spawn started chasing me up the stairs, but once I learned to listen to when this wave started - I would quickly run up to the top and unleash a barge of rockets and wipe up anything that remained with my sniper. From there it was relatively 'easy' This was when I really didn't have a great load-out.. I think at the time I only had a Ice Breaker fully maxed and a half-way decent rocket launcher.

This is sound advice.

I'm gonna match that setup except the primary- I'll switch between Atheons epilogue, abyss defiant, and fang of ir yut to handle Knights.

If you have a VOC, it is a really good gun to use for any solar shield/burn. Just throwing it out there...
