If we aren't able to ascend then I'm done . Grinding gear over and over is not fun .

2 RepliesI made this post in another thread, but it applies for this so I'll put it here as well. Quote: No, other way around, its an MMOFPS with RPG elements. Yes, that is important to note because an FPS and an RPG are two totally different things. You can't just say "either way" and then keep talking while ignoring the point that I've made quite clear already. That's not how this works. In an FPS, all weapons have specific uses and styles based on their range, rate of fire, mag size, reload speed, accuracy and damage. In Destiny, we add two new factors to this which are "Impact" and "Elements" (Void, Solar, Arc). Another big important factor here is that a weapon's damage value isn't determined by the weapon class. Not in a normal sense. The "DMG" aspect of a weapon is a modifier which goes hand in hand with the Impact. This is how Destiny differs from other shooters. Its the RPG element once again. Two Hand Cannons Both with the exact same Impact The first is 365 DMG The second, 400 DMG Compare the two side by side, fighting an enemy that is equal to or greater than your Light Level, and you will notice a significant change in damage output. This makes the weapon with the lower DMG value obsolete by comparison because the TTK (Time To Kill) for one is always going to be better than the other. So basically, what this really all amounts to is that they put out "broken" weapons that they expect people to run off and get all because of this. But I digress, the point I'm making is that its total nonsense to render all other weapons useless by putting out new ones that just happen to have a higher max DMG. Why invalidate what is already in the game? You can't just say "well they do that in other RPGs" because that doesn't apply here. That would be like playing Project Blackout, getting every gun available, and then the devs suddenly thinking its an intelligent idea to put out new weapons that make everything you already have pointless. For no other reason than they just have more damage. Its a crap shoot. Its lazy. Its unprofessional and shows a total lack of creativity. Go ahead, try to sell me on this. -blam!- you telling me what I need to do when I'M the one who bought the game and paying YOUR tab. I'm the customer, remember that. So now that you are aware of our mutual position here, it is YOUR JOB to figure out how to get me to trade up my old stuff for new. First, you need to realize that I already spent considerable effort and invested a great deal of time getting my current stuff and building it up. I'm quite attached to my stuff. You already know putting out something as lack luster as the lame ass "Devil You Don't Know" Hand Cannon isn't going to hold a candle to my "Devil You Know" Hand Cannon from the 1st Gen. If all you can think to do is make new weapons that have a higher DMG to try and force me to do it? Heh... Well, as you can tell from this thread, that isn't going to go over well for you. And remember, you're running a business. You can't just tell me if I don't like it then leave. You need to make me happy. I've given examples of it before, how they could make more creative weapons. Compare what is already out there on the market, what people are already using and make weapons that add to this diversity. The whole mentality that people MUST or SHOULD trade in their old stuff is just flawed, especially in the case of a game like Destiny. There is already so much wrong with this game, the total lack of content being one of its greatest issues. The Replay Value and majority of the reason people WANT to play Destiny should be because of its content. Engineering a damn Hamster Wheel system where you trick people into an endless grind in order to extend the amount of time they are playing is not only absurd, but -blam!-ing disgusting." Yep.

Nobody knows yet. IMO I think they will let you in one way or another. The way this community likes to cause an uproar about dumb shit, this issue would become a major concern. Anyone that says this isnt true has no proof or sources. Xbox players wait an entire year for guns to be released that right away become obsolete? I don't think so. And also think about they're selling TTK editions for new players with all the expansions and your telling me everything they earn through the game and first 2 expansions will be useless once they start the TTK portion of the game? Doesn't make sense to me

They should do etheric light 2.0 but the only way to get it is too dismantle new raid gear. So you still have to do the raid to get it.
-
It takes a lot of time an effort for a casual gamer like me to get gear that I like and have them get the perks I want is hard. I may quit Destiny if I'll be forced to replace all my gear rather then choose to based on it's cool factor.

1 ReplyEdited by Dismal Trauma: 7/1/2015 2:20:36 AMThis simple post is the defining shard in the broken glass house Destiny has become. Bungie* tried to inject MMO-RPG elements into their FPS, but only injected the worst parts while leaving out the best. The gear grind that naturally comes with any mmorpg should have been left behind for the outdated, unimaginative, archaic, frustrating, boring concept that it is - instead it was used to contaminate what could have been a beautiful new game concept sterile of the infections that plagued the last generation of gaming.

2 RepliesMaybe thier solution to vault space is making weapons and armor obsolete , and if so I think that's rather lazy development.
-
2 RepliesThey should have just made us upgrade months ago instead of allowing us to do this.
-
Lol @ the #communication - you're being a bit overly optimistic aren't you ? When have they properly communicated with us?
-
1 ReplyA very clear answer on this is needed. I will not continue to play this game if my efforts will be nullified in a couple of months. I would settle for exotics...as in the case with tdb...very pleased with etheric light. And 100 percent done without the ability to keep gear/raids relavent. There is simply not enough to do without VOG and Crotas end.

1 ReplyThey just gave us the ability to ascend our favorite gear and weapons. If they take that away, I'll be pretty pissed. I'm always looking for a new and better weapon, I've found a few, but still love some of the vanilla weapons and that's why I kept them even after TDB came out.
-
4 RepliesI've seen one image of a legendary weapon that had the attack value replaced by a light level. I'm really hoping every weapon is just patched to coincide with our light level. The higher our classes level the more effective the gun will be, which is how it should have been from the begining!
-
7 RepliesIf they don't let us ascend.. Then Destiny's whole "become legend" tag line is completely obsolete. What would be more legendary than playing Destiny 4 or whatever 8 years from now and still be wielding an effective Fatebringer and VoG armor? That's a legend.
-
4 RepliesIf we complain enough they might be able to rethink about our old stuff and let us upgrade it more.
-
1 ReplyI think they nowhere ready for destiny 2 to be release next year.
-
1 ReplyWhen TTK comes out it'll still be Destiny one not Destiny two If they cap raid weapons then what's the point in doing them. In turn this will make the raids obsolete. That's a big chunk of the game Bet the people who buy the game in September won't realise this
-
16 RepliesFrom what I understand all our gear will be capped at year one levels. There will be all new weapons and gear. It's pretty sad given all our treasures we collected. That's why we're not getting vault space. They want us to delete all our old shit for new stuff.

5 RepliesWell, on the good side final round snipers wont be a thing anymore since they removed the perk from the recent iterations.
-
4 RepliesEdited by SiniSterACE N7: 6/30/2015 10:51:02 PMAttack level might be 400 or 430 im just guessing at this or there might not be attack level at all.
-
I hope so we can assend gear.
-
7 RepliesIf that's the case what's the frigging point?
-
3 RepliesNope. Only the LMG heavy with Shank burn...
-
/bump
-
Agreed.
-
18 RepliesWe don't need to ascend bc what would be the point in getting new stuff?
-
2 RepliesFrom listening to the interviews it sounds like we won't be able to ascend. So that would mean the only way to keep VOG and Crota relevant would be to have new weapons drop in the raid. Destiny: Become Grinder.
