My take on the Collectorsgate controversy

What saddens me is the shake-up that this whole issue has created. A controversy over some extra in-game "trinkets." This is what has gotten players all riled up. Not the lack of gameplay variety, not the broken rewards system, not the pathetic progression system, not even the abysmal story. The restriction of a few exclusive cosmetic items locked behind a $80/$20 paywall. Even more disappointing is Bungie's reaction to player outrage. When the game is just not "up to snuff," however big or small the issue, Bungie drags their feet to make every little update, all the while telling us that they're listening. But, when players delcare, "I'm not buying" Bungie and Activision scramble to make right. Why? Because money. What happened? When did gamers start caring more about pre-order and collectors edition bonuses, and less about getting a good game that could be enjoyed for months or years to come? And as for Bungie: When did you stop caring about making great games that everyone would want to play, and instead started focusing on making games that people could "throw money at?" What happened to the old Bungie philosophy "30 seconds of fun that happened over and over?"
