Our sales tax and taxes in general is alot less here in America. We don't pay a sales tax on purchases online, but I believe you guys do. Please let me know if this is the reason why your paying more...FYI my income tax is only around 25%...and I don't pay a state tax. What's yours?

  • Tax in the UK is a complex beast. For the majority of people they will be taxed at 20% on earnings over a Personal Allowance and have National Insurance taken off at 12% - making 32% total. If you earn over a certain amount (around abouts £43K a year) then tax goes up to 40% on earnings over that threshold figure with National Insurance dropping to 2% - so if you earned £50K then £7K taxed at 40%, around £33K taxed at 20% and the rest tax free, around £10K). There is a higher tax bracket too for the over £150K a year people, but then who'd be worried about £40 then eh... My personal thing on this is pretty similar to everyone else. I paid £40 last year for the entire game and am surprised that I will need to pay the same amount for an expansion that would appear to have far less content. Plus if it's ONLY available as a digital download there are NO import fees for Activision to have to consider. There is VAT at 20%, yes, but that still does not account for the £15 hike over the cost of the product to American gamers. As for the additional Collector's Edition stuff as well, I am flabbergasted that they make a big thing about what we as veteran players will get after the Luke Smith debacle, and then announce that we will be able to buy the emotes etc for $20 for US players (so likely £20 for us in the UK). Do they REALLY think that is good value? So for the price of the Dark Below, or the House of Wolves, or Half the cost of the Taken King is about right for 3 dance moves, 3 pieces of exotic gear and 3 shaders? If the price of the DLC has got people mad, then THAT right there really is crazy. Absolute rip off.

  • I agree and thanks for the info, I hope that some Americans read this and are grateful on our tax rates here in the U.S...but I got an easy answer...become American...lol just kidding. Here is a thing when I lived in Italy I brought my PS3 from America my PS store still had the USD prices. The only problem I came across was one game I bought I think it was COD MW2 was all in Italian, it kinda sucked because at that time I could only read Italian...lol.

You're right in thinking that we've always payed slightly more for games than in the US but never have I seen a game/DLC that's 60% more expensive. It's utterly absurd. $46 more is just crazy. Before anybody says it; I can afford to pay that if I were so inclined and I'm not moaning about buying new content. The complaint lies with having to pay so much more than other people. The limited edition on release was about 30-35% more. The relative price increase is huge.

  • 20% sales tax would still make $40 into £31 at todays fx rate. We are getting ripped off in the UK

  • To give you a quick overview, $40 = £25 the UK has a 20% tax rule for general goods this means the game should cost £30 as 20% of the original value is £5.

  • I was sure it had to be because of your high tax rate...when I lived in Italy my income tax was 46%

  • Income tax is charged at different rates depending on what you earn, the above is a summary of how the game should work in the UK.
