Against.
Imagine having to waste your time in raids, weekly strikes, or nightfalls, carrying level 34 noobs who got all their gear from their friends.
The game is meant to be hard, and the loot is meant to be earned. Even if you can't control what you get, you know what activities will yield the best results. It takes time to get the gear and the skill to finish those activities. That's how it should be, in my opinion.
For example, I'm hundreds of hours into Destiny with no Gjallarhorn to show for it. What would be more exciting: having a friend give one to me, or the moment when one finally drops?
As frustrating as it can be sometimes, we wouldn't be talking about weapons and gear of mythical status if people could just hand it over. And I think that's part of what makes Destiny interesting.
