"We’ve seen you backing out of matches on final approach in your ships because you saw formidable opponents on the other team. That tactic could earn you a restriction from future Trials of Osiris events. Please stick it out and fight – even if you know you’re about to be visited by tourists from the Lighthouse." - DeeJ, Weekly Update 6/4/15
I don't give a -blam!-. I don't owe that other team my time. I don't owe them my ass to stomp.
If your matchmaking system pushes me against a group that severely, obviously outclasses my group of guys that has yet to get to the Lighthouse, I don't - nor does anybody else - owe them our deaths.
Our penalty is on our card in the form of the loss we take. If you have a problem with people backing out of these matches, then don't count them as a Win for the other team.
Trials of Osiris has some serious design flaws. Solve them.
UPDATE: I should have edited this sooner, I apologize. I am aware of the Change Character exploit some folks may have been doing to avoid a loss. I was admittedly fuzzy on this issue when I initially posted. I believe a lot of my argument still stands, however, and, as others have noted in their replies, Trials of Osiris needs something done to its matchmaking. A simple step in matching Lighthouse Veterans to other Lighthouse Veterans, for instance, would do loads of good in evening the competition by placing the Proven against the Proven, and the Aspiring against the Aspiring.

2 RepliesThere are some simple solutions for you: 1) don't play ToO. Seriously. You don't HAVE to visit the lighthouse. And you don't NEED the lighthouse rewards. You get them if you CAN earn them. Otherwise, just don't play (note: I haven't played ToO yet!) 2) play ToO as well as you can and take the rewards you get. Try your hardest along the way, and focus on having fun and developing good strategies. Take those matches against top teams as a challenge, and try different approaches to them to better yourself and your fireteam for future challenges in pvp 3) most importantly: stop thinking that because the lighthouse exists that you deserve to go there. It isn't meant for everyone, least of all right away. Portions of destiny's design seem inspired from Dark Souls, and much of the basis there is: die die and die again, but learn from it. Having played that game for many many hours, there were still places too challenging to go, content too difficult for me. And that's OK. It gave me something to work towards. And for my cash money, that is what ToO is: something to work towards. First, you need top tier gear. Then you are better off having pvp specific gear. Then, once you're geared up, you've gotta practice and learn. And that's all part of the challenge. If you don't enjoy that, then kindly GTFO
