"We’ve seen you backing out of matches on final approach in your ships because you saw formidable opponents on the other team. That tactic could earn you a restriction from future Trials of Osiris events. Please stick it out and fight – even if you know you’re about to be visited by tourists from the Lighthouse." - DeeJ, Weekly Update 6/4/15
I don't give a -blam!-. I don't owe that other team my time. I don't owe them my ass to stomp.
If your matchmaking system pushes me against a group that severely, obviously outclasses my group of guys that has yet to get to the Lighthouse, I don't - nor does anybody else - owe them our deaths.
Our penalty is on our card in the form of the loss we take. If you have a problem with people backing out of these matches, then don't count them as a Win for the other team.
Trials of Osiris has some serious design flaws. Solve them.
UPDATE: I should have edited this sooner, I apologize. I am aware of the Change Character exploit some folks may have been doing to avoid a loss. I was admittedly fuzzy on this issue when I initially posted. I believe a lot of my argument still stands, however, and, as others have noted in their replies, Trials of Osiris needs something done to its matchmaking. A simple step in matching Lighthouse Veterans to other Lighthouse Veterans, for instance, would do loads of good in evening the competition by placing the Proven against the Proven, and the Aspiring against the Aspiring.

Trials isn't built for a fair match up to give you the better odds of winning. It's a competition of all levels of skill. You enter at your own risk and if your good enough, then you reap the rewards. Honestly if you and your fireteam are ever backing out of a ToO match in fear of your opponents before even facing them, then maybe ToO isn't the game mode for you.

25 RepliesEdited by Strife 3e: 6/5/2015 12:39:45 AMWhat idiot would stay in a game for 10 minutes just to get curb stomped and teabagged. Not only does that demoralize and break up friendships with arguing on each other but the fact is people would not play the trials either in the end. Ban or no ban, same -blam!-ing outcome. And with no way to report ddosers (there's a way where you can keep matching the same people), well repeat again what -blam!-ing idiot would want to stay if they're not having fun.

13 RepliesEdited by Kevbeara: 6/5/2015 2:24:00 AMI PAID for your game you mother-blam!-er. I play it when I want. Not when you want. -blam!- Deej and -blam!- bungie. To me this isn't about playing against better teams or not. I don't mind getting my ass kicked I DO mind the audacity and gall displayed by bungie that they think they can tell me what to do
-
I just ended up fighting a group with only 2 others on my team. Everyone backed out as soon as we hit ground. They missed out. I'm sure they took it easy on me and the other two, but it was still somewhat fun. This group played, but they weren't dicks. They still cap points, still killed us (many times), but they didn't obliterate us like they could have. Noble Six, believe they were. Thanks guys, was fun. I even got Truth out of it. Noble, indeed.

Agreed. There used to be a time where Bungie wanted to perfect a true skill system for games they developed, along with having a system where groups of friends would only get paired against other groups. Now it's "Oh is this your first time ever play Trials of Osiris? Well -blam!- you, here's a team that's gotten to the lighthouse already on the first day of the weekend. And while we're at it, we see you're also playing Iron Banner solo. Well congratulations, your team is comprised of randoms, mean while we will pair you against a full fireteam that's completed the HoW exotic weapon bounties and has made it to the Lighthouse multiple times because -blam!- you getting a fair chance." Bungie is a severely thin shell of its former self. Anyone who denies this obviously doesn't remember or hasn't experienced them in their prime.
-
I would like to vote on the poll, but I don't understand the question
-
I used that to pick fights I know I'd win. But whatever. More time for Skolas then.
Not like ToO gives you HoW exotic weapons anyway...
3 RepliesThere are no design flaws. ITS A TOURNOMENT its not there to cater to people who arent the best at pvp its there to see who is the best and reward them for being better than everyone they encounter. And i completely agree with bungie if u leave game in orbit u should be restricted from participation trials isnt there to reward cheesers
-
Bet your poll didnt work out the way u intended
-
People are using it to cheat. They keep matchmaking till they fight their friends or opponents they think they will have an advantage over. There is also a bug that splits your fire team up 2 to 1 when people leave before the match begins.
-
I will continue to do this until bungie stops allowing us to. Any one who doesn't is stupid because there going to take a loss.
-
Before I got to the lighthouse I had to fight through 4 teams of ppl with exotic emblems
-
Lol me and my group like to go in with our exotic emblems and rek, and its really funny and good for us when people do leave, free wins :D
-
Pussy if you to go flawless you win no matter what that's earning it, if you leave you should also get fined materials as well if anything because you've lost your right to play this game.
-
More meat for the grinder.

1 ReplyEdited by Firkey: 6/5/2015 2:58:05 AMThe fact that there isnt some sort of visible rating system for trials is absurd in its own right. You cant have a competitive game mode and have the best be playing against the worst. Any other games like this worth their salt have a rating system or some other way of demonstrating your skill level. Why doesnt this?
-
I agree the matchmaking is a joke.
-
4 RepliesThey are referring to a cheese teams are using to back out of a game while your ship is flying in which does not give you a loss. I believe it gives the other team a win but occasionally gives them a loss. This is what they want to avoid.
-
Edited by DISN: 6/5/2015 3:00:59 AMBacking out doesn't advantage you in any ways though. Why would you do this yourself? At least try to learn from your mistakes. It's the experience that counts.
-
2 RepliesI'd rather try than just take a loss, it is just a game after all.
-
1 ReplyWith that type of thinking you will never reach the lighthouse. You have to play better people to get better yourself. So suck it up Sally.
-
1 ReplyMuted for being a whining bitch.
-
2 RepliesYou dont get a loss though...so thats the problem and thats why a lot of bad people have made it to lighthouse...they keep backing out until they get a creampuff
-
2 RepliesDon't enter competitive multiplayer with no intent to compete. Act of matchmaking than revoking the match is asinine. And if your so bad, maybe try and learn from the better team during the match. You may improve.
-
Make perfect sense to me. Let's increase participation in an event not widely enjoyed by penalizing those who enjoy it the least. Smart... I don't back out and I suck but this is bs.
