"Everyone Fights. No one quits." can Go to Hell

"We’ve seen you backing out of matches on final approach in your ships because you saw formidable opponents on the other team. That tactic could earn you a restriction from future Trials of Osiris events. Please stick it out and fight – even if you know you’re about to be visited by tourists from the Lighthouse." - DeeJ, Weekly Update 6/4/15 I don't give a -blam!-. I don't owe that other team my time. I don't owe them my ass to stomp. If your matchmaking system pushes me against a group that severely, obviously outclasses my group of guys that has yet to get to the Lighthouse, I don't - nor does anybody else - owe them our deaths. Our penalty is on our card in the form of the loss we take. If you have a problem with people backing out of these matches, then don't count them as a Win for the other team. Trials of Osiris has some serious design flaws. Solve them. UPDATE: I should have edited this sooner, I apologize. I am aware of the Change Character exploit some folks may have been doing to avoid a loss. I was admittedly fuzzy on this issue when I initially posted. I believe a lot of my argument still stands, however, and, as others have noted in their replies, Trials of Osiris needs something done to its matchmaking. A simple step in matching Lighthouse Veterans to other Lighthouse Veterans, for instance, would do loads of good in evening the competition by placing the Proven against the Proven, and the Aspiring against the Aspiring.

    • But if backing out gives you a loss why wouldn't you at least try to fight it out? Me and my friends always stay for the fight.

Can someone explain to me what the big deal is if it counts as win for the other team? I would be glad to save the time and take the free win if some one quit against me. However personally I haven't quit and not sure I would unless the other team is lag cheating. I've only had a chance to play it once so far and got wrecked but I figure with practice I'll get the hang of it.

      • Yea i don't get why they would punish people who leave before the match starts. I get it if they leave mid battle but before it even starts? Bungie, don't get too heavy handed with punishment

I posted this somewhere else, and I think it needs to be said again. My fiancé is a high school teacher and she tells me a lot of stories about how negative and lazy some of her kids are these days. That is what your statement reminds me of. I went through the first week of Trails and came one game away from the lighthouse three different times while my clan mates/fire team got to go. (I didn't have coins/they played a game or two without me). It was very disappointing. I played against some very good teams and a LOT of Thorns. I made it the second week and that made it a lot sweeter. I didn't bitch about how unfair it was. I did bitch about how close I got. It was a negative feeling that I voiced. However, I didn't look for some cheap unfair advantage or try and pick my battles. We all know this is a video game, but we spend valuable time in the real world playing it, a real world where life can be very -blam!-ing unfair. I don't want to change your opinion or tell you your wrong. What I do want to tell you is that when you come up against adversity, it's not unfair, it's a opportunity to overcome it and take pride in it, or a moment to fail against it, yet come from it armed with lessons from the experience. The difference in our view points is simply attitude. Look at it my way, experience it my way. It's a (very hard and never mastered) lesson in life, not just Destiny, everyone could benefit from. I hope this helps you or someone else who reads it.

Personally, I feel it's justified. Losing sucks, especially when you're shooting for a flawless 9-0, but if you back out before the match officially begins, you deserve to be punished. Just take a loss and try again. It's not the end of the world. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you were one of the ones pulling this pansy move?

      • I am far from a "good" PvP player but I agree with Bungie's decision. People that are quitting out before the match are trying to game the system and avoid a loss. Take your lumps and move on, the lighthouse is not supposed to be an easy destination to get to.

          • I see the point. I'm not a great PvP player, but I got some friends together and we came up with a strategy, (after loosing 6 games in a row) that everyone we faced just could not beat. We got 2 of our characters flawless back to back. As I see it, this mode requires a lot of communication, teamwork and patience. It's almost impossible to find all three on a LFG site. People quit early and it gives no time to better the team. From one scrub to another "If you can't beat the emblem, you don't deserve the emblem" - SmoggyPluto

              • Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it seems that changing characters while still flying in doesn't give the leaving team a loss. However, it might give the the team that stayed both a win and a loss. So, someone who neither plays nor cares about PvP could potentially deny a high level PvP player/team a flawless run to the lighthouse by leaving the match before it starts. While the worst that would happen the the non PvP'er is that he/she would get temporarily banned from an activity they don't care about. If this is actually the case, then I have but one thing to say about it... (In my best Mr. Burns voice) Eeeeeeexcellent!

                • Just had a discussion about this with some friends. I've never backed out of a match, but I do believe they need to do something different with the matchmaking. Even though it's based on connection I still get teams with red bars and what not so that's definitely not working. I'd rather play against teams with similar skill then teams who are 100x better. It'd be a lot more fun, I think. Just my opinion though.

                • Another post of entitlement. If you can't hang don't play trials. It's that simple. Matchmaking can be a bit better in normal crucible, I give you that. But in trials, it's anyone's game. Come to compete or don't come at all.

                • While I don't agree with your post I'm also not saying get wrecked. As I see it trials of Osiris is supposed to be for the best of the best. So when you enter into it you should expect to be classed up against the best. Now if you want to talk about intelligent matchmaking it really needs to happen more so in just normal crucible.

                • I like it. If ur good you can succeed if not you cant. Its like poe. If your really bad you cant get anything. Welcome to the real world where not everyone get a pat on the back for showing up. Seriously. Everyone is so soft. You want skill matching go play another playlist. This is about winning. You have to be good to win. Ur not good enough? go play poe and give skolas a hand job. U can always find some high level buddies to team up with and they can carry you. My team i play with consistantly can put up 5 to 8 wins no problem. If u stick with it u will eventually get 9 and 0

You need to learn reading comprehension and graduate middle school before throwing nonsensical rants. He was saying people are cheating by changing characters to avoid losses and to avoid facing people who look threatening. They arent banning the people that just back out or leave, they are banning the people that log out or change characters to avoid facing them and avoid a loss.

                  • Please read: This isn't what he's talking about. There's an exploit in Trials of Osiris where if you back out while flying in, it doesn't count it as a loss. People do this because they inspect the enemy and if they're "too good," they'll just leave and find opponents that look easy. This post was not about quitting mid game because you're losing.
