"We’ve seen you backing out of matches on final approach in your ships because you saw formidable opponents on the other team. That tactic could earn you a restriction from future Trials of Osiris events. Please stick it out and fight – even if you know you’re about to be visited by tourists from the Lighthouse." - DeeJ, Weekly Update 6/4/15
I don't give a -blam!-. I don't owe that other team my time. I don't owe them my ass to stomp.
If your matchmaking system pushes me against a group that severely, obviously outclasses my group of guys that has yet to get to the Lighthouse, I don't - nor does anybody else - owe them our deaths.
Our penalty is on our card in the form of the loss we take. If you have a problem with people backing out of these matches, then don't count them as a Win for the other team.
Trials of Osiris has some serious design flaws. Solve them.
UPDATE: I should have edited this sooner, I apologize. I am aware of the Change Character exploit some folks may have been doing to avoid a loss. I was admittedly fuzzy on this issue when I initially posted. I believe a lot of my argument still stands, however, and, as others have noted in their replies, Trials of Osiris needs something done to its matchmaking. A simple step in matching Lighthouse Veterans to other Lighthouse Veterans, for instance, would do loads of good in evening the competition by placing the Proven against the Proven, and the Aspiring against the Aspiring.

If you don't want to get a guaranteed loss, and you don't want the other team to get a guaranteed win... Stick the game out and quit bitching on the forums.
-
Hell, all I want is for -blam!-ing people to stop lagging. Every damn time we get in there is always that one guy who apparently is so hurt that he didn't get to be MJs back up dancer that he moonwalks everywhere to make up for it. Once they fix that issue then they can talk about penalties.

I'm sorry. Last I checked, the lighthouse was a reward for overcoming the most difficult PvP challenge in-game. If you are quitting against any team that could beat you, then you don't deserve the lighthouse or to continue. My team may not be great, but we sure as heck refuse to quit. We always stay and try to fight. If you don't quit, you have a chance to win. When you quit without trying, you will get a loss every time. Originally, trials was intended to be only for the most skilled. They may have changed it to allow the scrubs in, but it is still advertised as the most difficult PvP challenge. Deal with it, the game isn't gonna be easy.

2 RepliesEdited by quicktango: 6/5/2015 6:53:37 PMYou quit, I get a free win, so go ahead. The reason for the rule is that Trials is a tournament and as such, once you enter you've got to play through. Have you ever heard of a sports team winning a tournament because they turned their bus around on their way to play any team that could beat them? No. You win, because you faced all teams, knowing that you can win, and with the correct strategy, you can.

Edited by Basher SBC: 6/5/2015 6:52:01 PMThe irony is, ToO isn't even a true test of skill. Base, vanilla crucible is. Only when you give all players balanced equipment do you see who has the stones. Imagine a fully geared football team facing one made up of guys in Speedos. Or a hockey team on sharp skates facing one with dull skates. ToO isn't about who is skilled; it's about who has managed to gear up well. EDIT: To be clear, this isn't to say people who play ToO aren't skilled. They most certainly are. But the mode itself has deep flaws as far as being an indicator of who is the "best of the best".
-
2 RepliesEdited by Jambob1998: 6/5/2015 6:18:00 PMI have a theory as to why they are doing this... It's so the Lighthouse remains exclusive to 'the best players' and that people will continue to want to get there and keep playing destiny... Profit for them if nobody realises. Edit: profit comes in the shape of us buying more dlc and such.
-
3 RepliesI don't care for the attitude. His arrogance is getting to me.
-
19 RepliesBest solution is to lock individual charecters out of the ToO after a flawless run. That way people could still go flawless 3 times a week but would prevent them from spending all weekend preying on others or carrying people through.

Only on my titan
i suck at titan
if we saw efrideets spear final round and throns f dat

5 RepliesEdited by xshadowxwolfx7x: 6/5/2015 2:07:22 PMIf they had a decent matchmaking system in this game, anyone who made it to the lighthouse should only go against other lighthouse visitors. Those who had not made it there would go against others who had not. Then the MLG no life gamers who have 7200 hours on Destiny could fight amongst themselves to prove who is really the best player. But instead we get people who have gone flawless 27 times against people who are trying it for the first time. And bungie expects those first timers to sit around getting destroyed so that the "elite" can get into their little lighthouse.
-
KD should a matchmaking statistic. Let MLGs duke it out while skrubs fantasize tjey l33t. Just saying.

Bungie's design makes it so only the best can get to the Lighthouse. If you are not the best you can't go. Translation: almost none of the game's players will ever see the Lighthouse. Personally I Haven't participated in the trials because I don't see the lighthouse or any of the rewards worth my time. I am practicing PDP however and I am getting better maybe in a month or two I will feel confident enough that I could find other people of my skill level and maybe give it a go. But I certainly don't think that I can play against the best people in this game without having spent months and months on PVP which I haven't. On the other hand World of Warcraft created a system which tallied everyone's skill level and gave it a numerical value and then only plated the top people against the top people and vice versa. So if you were playing arena you're playing against people of about your skill level. But then again you were not getting top rewards unless you were the top. This is competition people. Competition is based on creating LOSERS. 99% of sports teams do not win the trophy in a season. 99% of Destiny players will be losers. This is sports. If you don't like sports and competition don't play. Personally I think the whole system is -blam!-ed. Pisses everyone off and creators whiners and cheaters because emotionally everyone is left in a horrible state. It is like giving a trophy to the playground bully for beating up the weak children. But this is where we are as humans. What do Guardians?

1 ReplyBungie are just a bunch of control freaks. They want to control everything. -godwinslaw!--Bungie.
-
4 RepliesThe trials are looking for the best players. It never was meant for groups of equal skill to be placed head up. Also see it as a good thing. Several groups of good players were looking for easy targets. If this stops that then all the better. I think it's a good thing. Sorry you can't look for weaker players. You've said everything I need to know about you in one post.
-
I say let people do it. I've never done it but I've had it happen to me a couple times. I'll take the free win.
-
4 RepliesTrue, this a is a bullsh*t measure. They are only being lazy again, instead of fixing what is wrong. Nobody cares that people quit, in fact both parties are spared time most of the cases. Bungie doesn't give a rat's arse about what the community actually wants...
-
Listen, I am not one to bash Destiny left and right but... With that said, I agree with you 100%. This whole elitism thing is getting out of hand. There needs to be ranked matchmaking. If they want to make it a 9-0 Lighthouse thing. Great. But to have highly skilled players just slaughter the less skilled players, I have a huge issue with that. It starts to become almost a bully system of purposely beating teams so those less skilled will never get there. When I read what Deej said, I was kinda dumb struck. It seems lately that Activision has been running around the PvP department. Again, don't get me wrong, I really like this game. Alpha, Beta, Day 1 and Platinum Trophy holder here and I don't usually bash around the forums. I am just getting really concerned lately with this game.
-
2 Repliesseriously. What the fuçk ever happened to SKILL BASED MATCHMAKING? Like the good ol Halo 3 days with TryeSkill?
-
4 RepliesThat whole statement from DeeJ reeks of Activision and Black Ops 2. I would like to say F the powers that be if they implement this I paid almost $100 for this game I'll take a loss in the Trials, if I choose to play them, however I damn well please. Just like in Iron Banner or regular Crucible if that damned Pantheon map comes up or your silly matchmaking throws me into a game of control down 15,000 to 2,000 my guardian is going right back to orbit.

9 Replies...Or, if teams have one person with the lighthouse unlocked, it should pair them with others who also have it unlocked. Or, Or; in the spirit of "I so good, ur bad, git rekt scrubs etc" make Trials with "pre-set" selections of stats, and weapons. Level advantages still work, and really see who is good when everyone has the same weapons. (Although they do now, for the most part.) The trials are supposed to be challenging with stiff (Giggity) competition. I do agree that sometimes you are matched up with people out of the stratosphere in terms of skill, unit cohesion, and determination. I don't blame you for leaving; but I personally won't be subscribing to that train of pain. If I win lots, great. If I lose all weekend (again) then so be it. I'll keep working at it until I do get to the lighthouse. But also while I'm dreaming, I want a pony.
-
You are a major pussy if you pack out of matches
-
Trials is the only lag-free matchmaking in Destiny right now. If they matched based on skill, it wouldn't be worth playing for high-skilled players because every game would be a lagfest like the rest of Crucible. It was designed to not hold lower-skilled players' hands through PvP like they do with IB. Speaking of, IB is still active, so play that instead.
-
Well said my friend well said
-
12 RepliesAgreed, the Match Making should be designed around skill level and/or Trails win/loss record. Why would they pair a team that has gone 9-0 up against a random team with zero wins. If ToO is about the Elite or the Best of the Best then pair them up against each other and give other teams a chance.
-
Here's another good idea let's lower all raids nightfalls and poe's by 10 levels for people who can't complete it
-
Edited by BigDaddyE47: 6/5/2015 5:36:36 PMI agree with you 100% in principle, however I can't get behind the quitting so I don't participate. I find it immensely frustrating that I paid for a DLC that excludes me from the majority of the activities because I'm not a skilled enough player(seriously, -blam!- you Bungie, if you had told me this was going to be hard mode I would have kept my money), but that's life - I'm not going to try to exploit the situation, i'm just not participating.
