TL:DR an app idea, where you can activate a chat box in your app to send messages to nearby guardians in game via a chat box, text feed, or private message etc.
Handy for the shy people, and remeniscent of games that have features where players create strong bongs and then build up to using mics.
this isn't already in game right? I did take a long break awhile back
Wouldn't it be a cool idea if as you're playing destiny, your phone is at your side, you're connected to the app...and...for the people not so fond of voice chat....to have a feature where basically...
There's a tab labeled "shout box"
or something to that extent
You tap it on your phone, and it says "send to nearby guardians, private message, fireteam
So you choose one of those.
if that already sounds over complicated, lets just say then that you could ONLY send to nearby guardians
So you type that up on your app screen, push send, and 1 of 2 things, or both things would happen
A chat bubble pops out and nearby guardians can see it. There would be filters as well, being able to opt in or out of seeing the chats. Filters for curse words obviously since it's a game kids play as well.
So at our disposal is a very social app. Not everyone uses a mic though, and sometines you'd like to ask nearby in game guardians for help rather than sending messages over psn or xbl and LFG and threads get over run with replies as well as high demands of things like requiring a level or prior experience etc.
Ontop of that you can set a chatbox open too.
So imagine you're at the tower, or even about to start a mission but in the patrol area and no one is in your fire team but you'd like to start one.
So as your character is sitting there idle, you go onto your app and type in whatever you want..or choose from presets.
So over your head other guardians would see a non intrusive chat bubble reading things like
Need team for crucible
Need raid team
Help with mission plz
Etc.
Things of this nature. Let your imagination take it from here. Also at the same time, any chat on screen is also available through text feed at bottom left like how the feed looks in the crucible as it shows who died from what etc.
I use a mic when I need to. I've played other games where the "chat" text base was available too though, and it's a great way to build friendships you might shy away from otherwise. Then, that builds up to using a mic.
Maybe this sounds unecessary in todays gaming world, but you never know. Maybe some might like such a feature if it were possible. The app already lets us switch gear n stuff. So this app is prettty amazing already.
