You know I hope that Bungie do put in Option Matchmaking. Then I will buy in stacks of popcorn as I read the 100s of posts complaining they got their asses handed to them in The Trails by pre made teams, struggle to complete a high level PoE and for the cherry in top of the cake, never complete a raid. I am not going to read the next comment telling me how wrong I am because I know I'm right. It just the folk gere supporting matchmaking have had little experience in endgame activities.
You talk about MM being available to those who are at a certain level. It won't matter, it still doesn't mean they know what they are doing and heck you talk as it's easy peasy to code in. I will admit I'm no expect, but you are asking for a system that will create more kicks to orbit than ever before. If that happens after round 4 in PoE or in the Trials, there will be a lot of unhappy people about. When the simpler solution is how ever much you hate when you want to complete a raid or endgame activity is to go to a LFG site.
Lastly it'll be all about communication. You do need it for these activities. You cant no matter what you say guarantee the people you are MM with will talk to you, mic or not. You may just about scrape through a level 32 PoE and possibly a 34. You will not get away with it in a raid or The Trials.
Posts like yours will always trend and be constantly bumped by people who agree with it. Without ever fully understanding the consequences that come with it. If you get your MM you will see for yourself and there will be a lot of unhappy Guardians out there even if it's optional if it affects their games in the way I've previously described.

I do believe that adding optional matchmaking would create way more posts complaining about afk'ers and trolls than we now have asking for it. I don't know about the communication part until you get into level 35 PoE and hard mode for the raids though. The biggest downside I can see to being in a matchmade team for endgame content is the lack of a fire team leader and the inability to kick someone that keeps screwing it up for the rest of the team. With that said, either way it doesn't affect me because I have my 3 man team for prison and raids, so if it really is wanted by the majority of players (which is debatable) then go for it.

Does it bother you more that others would be able to enjoy the game or the fact that it would more than likely upend your hierarchy of arrogance? The

I think you nailed it

You won't enjoy the game more, that's the point.

robos right. We won't enjoy the game? Hahahahahaha by getting to access all the content, we won't enjoy it....... OK.

Edited by ESINEM_IS_ROUGH: 5/27/2015 8:59:32 PMI would love optional matching. It's easy for ppl with 50 buddies to say we wouldn't like it but when they added it to weekly I enjoy that a lot

If I can scrape a victory in 34 PoE with randoms then I would be a happy bunny! With the trials, I've kicked the butts of full fireteams with randoms a few times before and although I'm less likely to win, there is still a chance. With the raids, maybe/maybe not depending on experience, but again - why would it matter to you if matchmaking was optional?
-
It will matter when these forums are full to the brim of people complaining about who they got matchmade with, when they can't complete an activity because people keep dropping out or unaware of what needs doing when.
-
People are unaware because they haven't done it before ya knob lol. Seriously wtf is the problem? It won't affect you at all.
-
You can't ask for a major change and then go "it won't affect you" because it will. As for people not having a chance. There are plenty of chances out there if people spent 5 minutes on LFG sites finding a group. There are groups that specialise in being sherpas. I fail to understand how matchmaking will make it all bettet when it has all the potential to bake it worse.
-
sorry but cooking wont work, its not in the game. you wont know until they actually try it, which is more than likely with the surge of requests or they come clean and give us a straight answer not some philosophy that penalizes those who don't have the time or don't wish to use LFG or recruitment forums

The only people who want MM more than anything have said so in this thread. I have yet to speak to anyone who has been around the block a few times doing various activities say that it is. If you want some thing badly enough you'll argue black is blue about it. It doesn't mean your opinion is right or that it has any less validity than those who disagree with you. However, basing what I've seen in the ups and downs of MM teams during the Weekly Heroic, trying to implement for all endgame activities would s diaster for those who will end up relying on it. Nothing you say will get me to change my opinion on this

You care about the forums more than the game? These forums are already fairly toxic with the thorn, treasure key nightmare, PoE is too hard etc. At least, most of the community with regards to optional matchmaking are banding together, and that is a good thing. If optional matchmaking was implemented and someone goes on the forum to complain about there random team mates, then the obvious answer would be "It's optional - you chose matchmaking for that event". With the matchmaking being optional, no one has anyone to blame but themselves and the choices they make. If you don't like a random team, form up one of your own. What is the problem?
-
What I care about Is people being disheartened over something that could have been avoided in the first place. You don't care about anyone other than yourself, that much is clear. Think about that before you lecture me on the rights of who has the right to enjoy what.
-
ok? wasn't trying to lecture you, just arguing my point. I think most polls show that >75% of this forum are in favor of matchmaking (including myself). Disheartened over what though? Wouldn't most replies to "I can't do [insert event here] because my random team mates suck" involve use LFG, or a personal invite to a fireteam? Really not trying to start a fight, but understand the other side of the argument.
-
Polls mean nothing. If you believe passionately about something enough, you'll vote for it. It's like the team chat option everyone bleated on about. The reality? I've never come across anyone who used it in Pve or PvP. As for MM yes people will use it. The experienced and those already in raid squads will opt out if that option is in place. Eventually, it'll lead to disheartened players because no matter how many times they try, they lose. I'm not bring cruel, elitist or obnoxious just trying to be the realist here. There needs to be a way to make group formation more accessible in the game, but matchmaking isn't it.
-
Yes, polls are inherently biased, but most show overwhelming support for matchmaking and the numbers are large enough to at least warrant some attention. Matchmaking may not be the perfect answer for all events, and I think you hit the nail on the head with a lot of frustrations with destiny: More in game access. It is just ridiculous to access matchmaking on an external website, or for that matter the grimoire or your stats. Why do we need a companion app? Can't Bungie just make a more ergonomical way to interact with your inventory, ammo synths? Why do we need to message through ps4 rather than within the Destiny world itself? Anyway, it's also disheartening that many will never even attempt a raid / high level event. I don't really believe it will dishearten those people anymore to fail a raid that they would have otherwise never attempted.
-
you don't care about those 80% who have not touched the end game content, I am more than willing to jump into Optional MM to help them along, it makes me the better gamer
-
Ya actually I rarely get the chance to show anyone the ropes. Wouldnt mind at all or care. The guys I did lvl 32 POE kept reviving me on the boss cause I didnt notice the shield set up lol face palm. But did they get mad that it was my first time? NO BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE ARENT ASSHOLES LOL. I also didnt die for the first 2 rounds unlike the 2 34's I was playing with. I posted in recruitment, "lvl 32.5 hunter, maxxed gally no exp whatsoever. Will die once or twice, 27years old, not too much of an idiot, will shoot arc enemies with solar from time to time, blow myself up with mines etc lookin to do lvl 32 Poe". Got invited by em in 30 seconds haha. Matchmaking is totally doable. Nayasayers dont want to lose their elitist feelers.

What this guy said is the best answer yet.

thanks, I think?

I just like what you said about joining with someone who doesn't know what they are doing," help them".
-
indeed, helping the community (something Bungie failed to do), I don't care if they understand me or not, I will still take them into the content that has been lock out to them for so long, ill pay it forward
