Yes, the bible is probably a metaphor and if you think critically then it can coexist with science (apart from creationism vs evolution, but that's debatable). However I do not believe that it has any truth behind it for various reasons which I will not discuss as I do not want to get into it. I do believe that there is some sort of greater power though.
What you stated is the exact definition of deism.

if you think critically, you shouldn't be religious at all. a critical thinker would be skeptical of all religions.

Edited by dendrox: 5/27/2015 2:43:42 PMNo, you can actually make the bible work with science if you really think about it and use your mind to interpret what the metaphors mean.It doesn't work for all aspects of it like creationism vs evolution, but smart people have found ways to make it work. Telling you about all of the interpretations would be way too much writing, but feel free to look it up. Perhaps critical was the wrong word, thinking with an open mind would fit better (sadly not many people do that nowadays) Now that's just the science part, the stories about all of the angles/demons on Earth, Jesus, Noah's Arc, Adam and Eve, etc, are a different topic.

Things in the bible could be comparing events with something else to make it understandable to the human mind and shorten things up. For example, 7 days could really mean millions of years.

indeed it could mean millions of years. but at what point do things stop being metaphorical and become real? is jesus's divinity metaphorical? is god's existence metaphorical? are heaven and hell metaphorical?

I honestly do not know about that
