Dear Bungie. I believe I have a solution to the matchmaking so many people so desperately defend or attack.
I am a supporter for matchmaking however I fully believe it should be optional or controllable. Here is my proposal.
Instead of it being forced or not at all, I suggest that your fireteam gains some new options based on the playlist or mission or anything outside of the crucible. You could configure these options by selecting the big name of the mission/playlist/raid after you select it at the map screen. Once you select it, it brings up a screen stating how many members you have, how many members could possibly be in that particular fireteam (6 for raids, 3 for everything else) You can select the empty fireteam spaces and choose one of 4 options.
Public is where anyone can join.
Friends only is self explanatory.
Invite only - also self explanatory.
Private means that slot is locked. No one can join, friend or not.
As for the technical side of it, I suggest making the game think that there is a person in that slot so it isn't que'd for a random. This way if you want to run Crota or a strike with less than max, you can configure the INDIVIDUAL slots in your fireteam.
Lets say you want to run Vanguard Dragon strikes with one other person. You don't want a random or anything. You open the map, select Vanguard, select Dragon, and it closes the map. You then select the big text and choose private for that one slot in your fireteam.
I suggest you also make it so you can configure slots already filled so if you or your buddy gets kicked, a random won't join before you or your buddy rejoins.
As for requirements or filters, I think we could work something along the lines of choosing the slots and selecting filters such as;
Must have a Mic plugged in
Must be a certain level
Must be a certain class
Feel free to add more in the comments below if you think there should be more filters but I think those 3 would do just fine.
I personally think this would solve all the problems. People who love to solo nightfalls or strikes in general could lock out the other slots while the people who want to matchmake without going to the forums or lfg sites can still choose to get put into games with others who CHOSE to have those slots open.
TL;DR Make your fireteam configurable with filters so people can choose who gets matchmade into their games.

Very nice post. Just referenced essentially that too. It's exactly how Perfect Dark and Gears did their matchmaking and it was awesome. Everyone was so much nicer to each other going game to game together than Halo's one-off matches. Made the most online friends in those two games.

Thanks. I remember playing games online and always making at least one spot private for my buddy lol. I wish destiny was the same. Anyway, I'm trying to get this idea out to bungie. My hope is that seeing this will get their brains moving in the right direction.
