While I normally try to read the entire thread first, I think some things are obvious responses you should have Lost Sols
When a contrarian to Bungie philosophy post gains enough traction to get to around 100 comments... poof! Disappears.
Perhaps its just part of the plan to get the more active members to revamp threads that get overly long. Sum it up in a new/related topic. And this IS being on more of an equal footing with the Devs.
The only thing LFG sites guarantee is that Bungie don't have to pay anyone to put the shit in their game.
On this entire section, prior to, and following the quote: Likely this is part of a system geared to find ways to get groups together faster. If all groups were formed in matchmaking the servers would probably be MUCH slower, and crash more often. This does impact people who don't use matchmaking. The even availability of external resources causes LFG sites to be the solution, until better options come about at least.
As to the rest of your post (Nightfalls, Trials of Osiris, Prison of Elders, Raids) : Simply I'd say that its due to the fact the best experiences in and out of game are those enjoyed with friends/family and Bugie is just "keepin it real."
At current, our philosophy about endgame content is that part of the challenge includes forming up a team. This is a strong community filled with players who are looking for teammates. Why not seek each other out here and band together?
Who are they keeping it real with? I don't need life long connections or be actual friends with ppl I play games with. You wanna run PoE level 32 great put give me optional matchmaking. I will do just fine with the random ppl selected. If not then I can start over, it's just a game. I use team chat, does it bother me that some else doesn't? Not in the slightest.

"Who are they keeping it real with?" US. Destiny is a game that came from our decisions, and wants being given the best way possible. For OUR ENJOYMENT. Also, more games started with far less completions per game would be as, annoying/counter productive, as eliminating matchmaking altogether. I'm for optional matchmaking. I just understand the obstacles to making it.

I dunno about the Destiny is a Game that came from our decisions, and wants being given the best way possible For our ENJOYMENT I am guessing you missed out on all the posts at the beginning when this game first came out. All the people (well lots of people) who had followed the delvelopment of this game over 3 years prior to its release (I was not one of them so i do not know the exact details) where complaining about loads of content plots story lines it was a huge bunfight about how the game had been stripped back and was a meir shodow of its former self. I am not saying this is %100 accurate but i was on here then and i did read alot and there seemed to be a huge part of the community who followed the dev of this game who where sadly dissapointed with released product.

Likely due to the complications of release on so many consoles, old and new.

Came from our decisions? We decided to lock out content behind arbitrary restrictions? Pre-made teams. We decided that ARs needed to be nerfed the last time around? Over use of a popular class of weapon. We decided to not included optional matchmaking when almost 100% of modern games include it already? See below. Pretty sure those decisions were made by the developer. Truth of the matter is they have no good reason to not include optional matchmaking. Lack of real content, trying to falsely extend game play, realization that end game content is not that hard and snow flake syndrome are the only reasons I can think of why Bungie hasn't included it. Imagine the rage if a match made team went 9 and 0 over pre made teams in trials? It would kind of negate the whole event. Oh the horror! Or if a match made team complete VoG or a Nightfall. Those super hard end game activities wouldn't appear to be so super hard if everyone completed them. Which they eventually would in time.

Almost every week, I matchmake the weekly, then the randoms and I invite each other and do the nightfall. We don't communicate, we don't know each other and we always get it done. Any group, randoms or not that have a strong grasp of game mechanics can best endgame content. And if we fail, then we fail. We get up try again and again. Optional matchmaking for all!!!!

This guy gets it!

So you don't want to get on a LFG site...
Looking for life friend/companion to play Destiny, tell fun stories and occasionally have a good cry. Mssg plox!
... Can't imagine why not lol

Edited by E Sword of LORD: 5/28/2015 11:49:44 AMHere are some points that need be made. 1: First and foremost is having a better gaming experience is the driving force of development. 2: Matchmaking needs to result in successful outcome. This success is the ratio of gamestarts to completions / playtime to completion. 3: Matchmaking (optional or otherwise) tends to result in there being large amounts of carry, fail, and excessively long scenarios. Particularly true of the fail/excessively long rounds is the feeling of "wasted time" expressed. More so in games where there is some kind of reward, here its gear. 4: Due to server limitations, more matchmaking occurring in game could result in slower game findings than the current system, and more crashes. One way to deal with this is group together "similar" players. To do this there is "optimatch", friends lists, and the detailed recruitment available in LFG. All three of these options (potentially) detract from a "unified" community where everyone plays with everyone due to the fact that the each cause segregation into smaller and (possibly) disassociated groups. Adding in to this segregation is the differential in amounts of available playtime, natural skill, and communication ability. Steps to correct this imbalance are seen in clan mentality, variations in "optimatch" definitions, intensive large group psychological study, and assimilation of player feedback. Bungie has employed all these steps. Success of said steps can only be measured if the player base is evaluated having taken these steps. I guess the philosophy is to keep matchmaking successful and the result is need of us to have better "optimatch" definitions, causing a study/adjustment gap. I'd wager more people give direct feedback here on the forums then in game. Guiding people to LFG gets people to forums and lets them see how easy they are to use, increasing chances of feedback. An explanation why there isn't optional matchmaking, yet, arises : Need to collect/increase feedback, and study results of different matchmaking definitions while maximizing successful gameplay and limiting server crash potential. Basically whats happening is just Bungie dedicated to OUR enjoyment, and taking steps to see increase in the quality of said enjoyment. Gear variance was, asked for/put forward as a way to better gameplay. The problems in creating many different variations in guns and gear are extensive. And they add to the segregation I alluded to above. There is the question of whether or not gear should get more powerful. Gear variance is also tied to giving "special treatment," whether based on playtime, contribution, in game progress, or random chance. Doing either without making something OP is difficult. This additional group of problems needs to be solved. Creating matchmaking that balances out a problem that is unsolved is impossible. Having the community involved in these decisions is whats happening.

Using your logic, Bungie is the only gaming company I've ever heard of that's "keepin it real". And atm, I really hate them "keepin it real". I don't have friends with an xbox. I don't care to make friends with an xbox. I don't care if content is more enjoyable with friends with xbox's. I'm here to play the goddamn game with whoever I choose to play it with. Idc if they are random people, because they HAVE to be random people. This isent day-care. I don't have to make friends just because Bungie tells me to.
-
Look I want optional matchmaking too. And saying you don't care if something is more enjoyable is counter to your own goal.
-
What? I'm saying I don't care if Content is more enjoyable with with a group of people that you always play with. That's just an opinion regardless. I prefer to not talk and just play the game.
-
I agree content should be enjoyable with randoms or friends. Furthermore I'd go as far to say randoms should be treated as good as friends. Just pointing out that enjoyment should be maximized, that's all.
-
Ever seen the Chappele Show skit "when keepin it real goes wrong?" Haha that's the problem with keepin it real! Lol

According to other commenters, optional matchmaking was successfully implemented in other games on last gen consoles. But I agree that Bungle's servers need upgrading. The lagging and booting are causing serious problems.
