How does evolution comply with the Second Law of Thermodynamics? Not trying to start an argument just curious.

Entropy does not mean chaos and disorder, as both are completely subjective. It states that a closed system will disperse its energy evenly. Earth is not a closed system.

The Earth is not a closed system. The argument comes from a flawed understanding of thermo dynamics.

Edited by Britton: 5/22/2015 6:05:56 AMThe second law of thermodynamics states that in an closed, or isolated system, entropy will always increase. Earth is not a closed or isolated system. We receive energy from the sun, and that provides energy for plants, which is food for animals and so on. Life must combat the second law by getting energy from outside sources by eating, photosynthesizing, etc. So when you measure the total energy given off and lost by the sun vs the comparatively tiny amount we absorb and utilize, entropy is still increasing.

Thank you for answering, and thanks for this thread. It's helping answer a lot of questions.
