Wait for Tuesday, that way you have a chance at new weapons and armor.

How so? Cashing in a commendation gives you rep.
-
I myself, and I'm sure many other guardians have their rep for everything just at the point before leveling up so they can level it up and get new gear after dlc drops
-
Right, but that isn't clear from the post. It's implying everyone should hold on to commendations until the 19th. This doesn't hold true for the many, many players who don't have all 3 factions, vanguard, and crucible just a hair short of generating a new package on all 3 characters. A clearer post would say, hey, use your commendations strategically (since they can be transferred between characters) to get all ranks as close as possible on all 3 characters.
-
Right, and rep ranks up factions, which gives you faction packages, which has a chance for weapons and armor. If you wait until Tuesday you'll have a chance at new weapons and armor instead of TDB weapons and armor.
-
That's not what I'm saying. If you need to get a faction close to generating a package, cash in your commendations to get within 25 or so rep so that you can simply do a patrol on the 19th to generate said package.
-
Why not just do bounties until Tuesday and get as close as you can? then your commendations will be able to rank up the factions a couple times on Tuesday. You do it however you want to though.
-
Couple times? No. It's 250 rep. That's like 2.5 bounties.
-
I have over 30 saved up. I'm saving them for Tuesday. Not trying to tell you how to play, just throwing out a useful idea.
-
Rep equals rank. Ranking up equals packages. Packages can contain new legendary items if you wait.
-
But if you're not near a new rank, you can use commendations to get closer. Not everyone has all their ranks that close. They can be used strategically.
-
Then why not wait?
-
You can wait, I'm just saying there's no need to. Only thing to remember is not hitting new rank until 19th. People seem to be equating cashing in a commendation with hitting a new rank. Cashing in a commendation gives 250 rep (not including nightfall buff), so they can be used strategically to get close to a new rank. For example, my warlock and hunter are pretty close to a new rank with all factions, but my titan is still rank 1 FWC. I'll be using cashing in commendations with that character until he's very close to fwc rank 3. Probably won't use all of them, just saying.

Edited by SalineVampire: 5/15/2015 5:11:09 PMHere's the deal I have. I like playing the game and don't want to not run strikes and bounties because I might go over. Seems pointless to do it now when you still have 4 nights before HoW drops to keep playing. Those 4 nights might see you rank up and have enough to rank again with the commendations after the drop.
-
I agree. But for newer players, spreading the word to save your commendations, period, is just wrong.
-
Not sure why it's wrong? There is literally nothing bad that will happen from saving them until after HoW drops. In fact I'd say not using them until after is the smartest thing to do for casuals, new people and hardcore alike.
-
Sorry, I think we got off on the wrong foot. You're correct, nothing bad will happen for holding on to them at all and most frequent players will likely have their factions set to generate packages already. For those people, yes, by all means hold on to them. What I was trying to get across is that, for people that don't have their reps up to snuff yet, you can use your commendations to get them up to Rank 2.99-ish really quickly.
-
And I get that, but I still don't see any added benefit for doing it now vs doing it after HoW. In fact I see it as a detriment. Doing it now may push you too close and then you can't do squat for the rest of the weekend (which is when the newer or casual players play most). They then risk going over and ranking up thereby losing a chance at a package containing new gear. I'm not mad BTW. Just debating the most practical usage of the commendations.
-
Yeah but earn enough rep and you're level up and get a faction reward package
-
I'm fully aware. The post seems to be implying cashing in a commendation will give you gear. No. If you have a faction that you still need to rank up before Tuesday, by all means, use your commendations.
-
Reward packages can be saved and will give you new engrams on the 19th. Only engrams don't convert. The engrams inside the packages are not determined until the package is cashed in. No reason to wait to rank up, just save the package. Again, packages can be saved for post DLC items, engrams cannot.
-
That's actually not true. Faction packages have predetermined contents when they are generated. Cryptarch packages do not.
-
Either way I'm saving engrams so when I cash them in I will get a new cryptarch level and therefore a new pkg containing how gear
-
That's completely fine. I'm banking on cryptarch packages because I don't have the vault space to store engrams and I also heard engrams are already pre-determined. This does not apply to engrams gathered after today's patch however, as Bungie has officially stated that new engrams, post-patch, may decrypt into HoW items.
