They're not "overpowered" in the traditional sense. It's just that the most common way to counter them has been nerfed to shit (Auto Rifles and Special Weapons). Before 1.1.1, it didn't feel like Thorn or TLW were "too powerful" because there was always a Rock/Paper/Scissors effect going on. Catching someone using them at close-range wasn't as bad, because you could easily slide in and decimate them with a shotgun blast, or chew them apart with an Auto Rifle if you had a steady aim... peppering them with bullets and f***ing up their shots.
If there was a troublesome Last Word or the common tactic of "most of the enemy team has Thorn equipped", you could stock up on Special Ammo and hang back with a sniper rifle as well... not giving them the opportunity to engage you at their ideal range.
There were legitimate counters to the exotic HCs. Those counters have been lessened (Special Ammo rarity), or removed outright (you have to be stupid as f*** or a masochist to run an Auto Rifle in Crucible now)... so Exotic HCs go unchecked, and it becomes a "if you can't beat'em, join'em" mentality that is easy to adopt since Xur recently sold The Last Word. Like, if you seriously didn't buy this when he's sold it, twice now, it's your own f***ing fault. Your other options are to operate with the other "counter-weapons" (i.e. "Other OP Weapons") like Red Death, Vex Mythoclast, etc. if you're fortunate enough to have one.
The answer isn't to f*** with the Thorn/TLW. It's to bring Auto Rifles back to being a viable weapon class and figuring out a better balance for Special Ammo boxes. If Autos were the "close-range chainsaws" (Bungie's words, not mine) they were meant to be, that alone would lower the amount of people rushing in unimpeded and chewing apart half of your squad with a fan-fired revolver.

Edited by supaanoob: 5/14/2015 6:04:00 PMNot completely sure if you are insulting me or just speaking out loud to the masses. I do feel that you talking about Auto Rifles is a viable point, but this likely is not going to be the case. I do also think some changes need to be made. What those changes are will be? Your guess is as good as mine.

Nah, the post wasn't intended as an attack. Just pointing out that the weapons have been in their current state for a while. The only reason that they're more rampantly-used is because there's even less effective counter-measures against them after 1.1.1 ... And you're right about us not knowing what measures will be taken for weapon balance. Hopefully it isn't more ridiculous nerfs.
