The thing is the majority of their audience including these forums are younger players and what I like to call the "mobile gaming generation." They want simple watered down non-complex content and don't care about story driven content or well developed characters. I'd be willing to bet at least 80% of Destiny's playerbase simply just want to get on for a few hours with their friends and shoot aliens in the face and that is all they care about. Mobile games make a TON of money on pretty much the exact same model we see being used in Destiny in terms of the content. This mobile gaming model is going to start spilling over into consoles because the companies have seen how much money there is to be made there by just putting out simple repetitive watered down content. Just the pay walls in Destiny are the DLC releases. There is going to be a huge DLC drop in September (Taken King) and considering it has nearly 3 times the content of the prior two DLCs that dropped for $20, I would assume it is going to cost at least $40-60 as another "add on" to the game. At that point you'll have spent $150ish and still don't have what I would call a full game content wise. We are just lucky Activision still has enough sense to not put microtransactions in Destiny, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it soon as it is in the contract with Bungie that microtransactions are allowed as an add on to the game. I just see so many people calling this one of the best games they've ever played and the only logical conclusion I can draw from that is that the majority of Destiny's playerbase is very young and either hasn't played many games or just doesn't know any better.

  • How many hours have you put into "better games" vs. your hours in destiny? Which is greater?

It would have been amazing to have all that content at launch, but in all reality I dont think it was possible under bungie's time constraint. This game is still in such early stages. The future is quite bright

Mass Effect Trilogy, Star Wars the Old Republic, Halo Reach, and several other games I've put much more time into than Destiny. Countless hours on NES/SNES/Sega Genesis...etc. I probably have at least 600 hours put into Mass Effect 2 and 3 alone. Destiny has great mechanics and is fun to kill some time with friends, but that is about it. In terms of an overall game it is hardly great or one of the best ever no matter how much time you spend on it. A lot of us only still play because we have already paid for HOW and are just hoping that it finally delivers some meaningful content that can be enjoyed and isn't the same repetitive crap designed for the mobile gaming generation. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me where if HOW isn't that great we're probably done with Destiny.

  • Yeah the story sucks, but destiny's gameplay is great. When the crucible isn't lagging too bad it's a great time, I really enjoy that it's different than say call of duty. I think the problem with the story had more to do with joe leaving than anything.

  • They made the game over simplified and boring to make it T for those younger kids, and also it's easy to get their (parents) money

  •
I just see so many people calling this one of the best games they've ever played
It's incredibly fun and fluid. I'll give it that. I think that's what people are really indicating when they call it one of the "best" games.

  • While I would not say destiny is the best game I ever played I would say its definitely a very fun game to play.
