I'm sorry I've already said this, but I feel it should be reiterated. This is why I don't believe it would be a good idea, even as an option.
3rd person players would have an advantage over 1st person players simply based on screen view-ability. 3rd person has a much wider peripheral vision (obviously) and you can see what's happening behind you without turning around. So there are clear gameplay advantages when talking about 3rd person gaming.
In an online multiplayer game, the way you play the game affects everyone playing with you. Gameplay must be equal and fair. You can like it or hate it; that's just the way it needs to be. So no they would, could, and should not give a third person option.

Man 3rd person for patrol is that unfair??? why ?? you can touch dpad anc dance and view the 3rd person. some ppl like you are just hard heads

Well, sure I guess patrol isn't a big deal lol but at that point, is it really worth fighting for? It would never ever ever be a good idea for crucible or for end game PvE content for the reasons I stated.

Would be OP. Could easily check corners for campers.

So? That's something you have to keep your eye on. Plus there's the ADS factor. And still doesn't solve the peripheral issue.

It ends up balancing anyways. In third person your accuracy will decrease compared to first person. You cannot aim down sights due to this. Also, take the turret in combined arms for an example. How far behind you can you see?

Not that far, but far enough to where I see a big difference. In GTA 5 I don't feel I'm any less accurate in 3rd person than I am in 1st. But I do feel like playing in 1st person is wayyyy harder than 3rd. I don't see why it would be any different here.
