Speaking only for myself, often when I play I am in a position where I am unable to speak (people sleeping/working/etc.). So I always message people to let them know that while I can't speak, I am experienced and can hear them to follow any directions as needed. Plus I try to communicate via dancing (Yes) and waving (No).
For me, most raiders don't seem to mind my silence, provided I don't do anything noobish, which I think is fair. But those who don't even give me a chance to prove anything is frustrating. It usually means a longer search for a team.

That and I don't get guys constantly all over me. I usually follow instructions easily and I'm naturally a good gamer. No one has had a problem with me not talking. I speak with skill. Anyone who is strictly mics only is an idiot. They'd take an idiot who talks than a skilled team mate who prefers to not use a mic and just listen.
