Alot of auto rifles get labelled as weak simply based on stats and as with alot of others shooters the stats often don't give an accurate representation of how the weapon actually performs.
Low impact/high rate of fire autos can be very effective if you are trying taking out multiple targets at once and can drop enemies in the crucible faster than hand cannons if you can aim.
I think most of them are fine ARs but we need to be able to test these weapons before we buy them.

Only problem is that you need to sustain fire with low impact/high RoF ARs, which means you have to be out in the open for that long, during which time you can get popped by HC headshots. This wouldn't be so bad if ARs would hit a little harder, or if you have maxed out stability on your AR, but getting outgunned by everything else isn't much fun. They're not terrible, but I find that ARs are best for finishing off a bunch of hurt targets, so I use them with the seeker grenades.

This only applies in PvP; in PvE there are too many enemies in a wave to rely on perfect shots. This effectively removes ARs from raids as an option.
-
Sure they can be effective, but with their extremely long killtimes, all of them have to be somewhat inaccurate or weakened to kill more than 1, and most guns just outright outclass them

Technically, if you hit every shot, the time to kill is not slow at all for medium and low impact autos. Atheon's does 13 headshot damage, which equals to 16 hits before the enemy dies. How long does it take to fire 16 rounds from Atheon's Epilogue? About a second I would say. Maybe a tenth of a second longer. Hard Light deals 20 headshot damage, which is a 10-hit kill. How fast can you squeeze out 10 rounds from that rifle? In about the same time I'd guess. Comparing against hand cannons it is only Last Word that can have a noticably faster time to kill if you land two hipfire headshots after one another, which is a hard thing to do. Hawkmoon comes second, but only if you proc the bonus damage which is a 3-in-13 chance in order to become a two-hit kill. Thorn can kill in two headshots too, but unless you squeeze in a third plug, the burn will take a second or two to finish them off and thus comes in third. So how many rounds can you fire from a hand cannon in that second of Epilogue fire? Without knowing the exact rate of fire, I am taking a wild swing at a guess here. I would bet on that Last Word can get about 3-4 rounds off in that second. Hawkmoon definitiely won't fire more than twice. Thorn would average 2-3 rounds. Of course, these times to kill depend on every shot hitting the head of the victim, which is not always the case. I am just saying that low and medium impact autos has the potential of very fast times to kill in the hands of a skilled marksman, but everyone thinks they are useless after the nerf and thus very overlooked.

that's 16 rounds from a full auto gun. and since a lot of them can get ridiculously unstable and hard to control. good luck hitting his head. its basically extremely high alpha damage guns vs weak low dps guns. of course there are some very stable auto rifles out there. but the only way your landing all those shots is if your target is standing still. which is highly unlikely. and that guy with the hand cannon is going to have plenty of time to take aim and kill you in 2 shots.

Except Atheon's is very accurate for a weapon of its archetype. It can be perked with Perfect Balance and it always comes with Persistence. I wouldn't use it in PvE outside Void Burn, but in PvP it is actually quite deadly in some player's hands. Players that see there are more types of viable weapons than just hand cannons and shotguns.

still... a weapon like the auto rifle in general shouldn't need to land nothing but precision damage head shots to down a target.
-
It doesn't. Just goes faster with headshots. I think bodyshot damage for Atheon's is 9 or 10, meaning 20 or 23 hits at most, which is just 4 or 7 more than headshots only. 23 hits is a lot, yes, but it is also a bullet hose. It gets those rounds downrange within a second n half.
-
id say it would be a bit longer than that. plus with the lag in general higher damage guns like hand cannons just so happen to be more efficient at getting those kills. and high rof low impact auto rifles doesn't look to do anything against other players. it just looks like its tickling them.

I don't know the real rate of fire for certain, but a wild guess would be that it spits out around 1000 rounds per minute, which equates to 16.666... rounds per second. 23 rounds would take about 1.4-ish seconds to fire. I think you also see what 16 headshots would do. Less than a second.
