It's pretty obvious that this is an anti-cheese measure and not a bug. The encounter only resets when you are sniping from miles away. If you actually go down and get in range of the Vex it proceeds normally.

I don't mind making this encounter more difficult (although I'd argue simply taking advantage of terrain is not cheesing), but if you're going to "fix" something like this, do it in a way that players will understand without having to put down the controller and browse message boards.

My dividing line on cheese spots and using terrain is, are the players practically invulnerable when in place? If you're up on the rock than nothing can really hurt you so it had to be fixed. In an ideal world the AI would be smart enough to attack any spot on the map. However we don't live in an ideal world and in any case constantly being chased out of cover would make playing the game normally much more difficult. A bunch of anti-cheese minotaurs would probably have been the best practical solution but would have taken more time to add.

Any solution needs to be something the player understands. As it is (assuming what I'm hearing is correct; I haven't tried it yet) the encounter resets with no indication of why. Assuming that Bungie doesn't consider ALL sniping cheesing, how do I know where I am and am not allowed to snipe from? Should my objective be reset if I am standing a foot to the right of where Bungie considers to be acceptable sniping range? It may be a glitch and not something Bungie intended - as far as I know they've never told us they changed anything about this encounter - but if this is intended to be a "fix" they've done a terrible job.

I figured it might have been that, but if that's what was intended, it's not working appropriately. I tried, You just get stuck in front of the door with nothing to do and no one to kill.

Well I don't know what happened to you there. Nobody on Reddit has reported any problems provided they are not on the rock near the entrance or the ramp up to the ship.

I hung out right in front of the door with 2 other guardians three times, all three times we had to go back to orbit. On a NF, pretty fookin frustrating.
