This poll is only here to give a general idea of what the community thinks. The important part is the discussion. (Feel free to change your answer at any time.)
Edit: Someone pointed out that the last option says make twice. Just try to ignore that.
The point of this discussion is for us to share our opinions about this shotgun and possibly work out a solution for how Bungie, or the community, should deal with it.
Rules:
1) Please respect everyone's opinion (you can disagree, but be mature about it)
2) Please don't insult or place any blame on anyone (it will just lead to fights that won't get us anywhere)
Edit: Here is a list of ideas everyone has suggested.
Decrease the range
Remove/adjust perks that increase range
Use fusion rifles instead of Felwinter's
Buff auto rifles/fusion rifles so there is a good counter
Add bigger maps
Use other shotguns with range perks to counter
Make all of its stats worse than other shotguns
Avoid close quarters
Add custom/private games with modifications like no shotguns
Swap the range of high impact shotguns with the low impact shotguns
Just leave it alone
Some ideas may seem better than others. I am just listing them all.
Edit: I made a poll for people to vote for the best solution. Thanks for all of your input.

Leave it as it is. There are shotguns that are just as good as it
-
Matador 64 is a better shotgun.

Edited by Devious_Melons: 6/30/2015 2:23:05 PMSwap the range, it has so much range + impact, my answer is to swap the ranges of high impact shotguns, like felwinters with low impact shotguns like sword breaker

1 ReplyI have three suggestions: 1. Make larger maps that don't only appear in combined arms 2. Make custom/ private games where you can modify all sorts of things, in this case, no shotguns maybe. 3. I forgot what the third one was. Damn. This'll bug me all day. I'll edit it if I remember it later.

It doesn't really need a nerf persay.....it needs it's perks stripped. Everyone just rolls the gun until they have the perks. Take away range perks from all shotguns, (except the ones that can't reroll) This would limit alot of players to Found Verdict though.

2 RepliesSo nobody has a shotgun to counter this? I HIGHLY doubt that majorty of guardians dont have a party crasher or a matador 64 but to think people still go in the feels about it lel.
-
2 RepliesAnyone who believes this gun isn't OP does not play crucible or they have no idea what OP means. When basic strategy for a game revolves around one gun it means it's OP. People are forced to use either another shotgun or thorn/last word/hawkmoon to counter the felwinters. If you run an AR/scountrifle even pulse rifle or sniper you will get destroyed if several people on the other team are using blink/felwinters. There is a narrow strategy to counter the weapon which makes the crucible monotonous. Gun fights are basically gone from the crucible these days.
-
Selling Felwinters was a pretty bad thing for crucible balance, its just the way the playerbase is. The map design favoring close range so much really didn't help either.
-
3 RepliesIf you use it, you should just use a fusion rifle. its the balanced version of this gun. They nerf shotguns twice because they were all doing what this gun is doing now, then they release this shotgun and it completely ignores the nerf. In fact, imagine how bad it would have been pre-nerf. Seriously, wtf were you guys thinking releasing this gun. You can't even counter it because half the matches are lagging. I say, crucible was a happier place before this piece of shit was released. At least when I was killed by invective, it was my own damn fault for being so close.

1 ReplyIts not the gun its the perks

This will not make the game any more fun for anyone. What WILL make the game more fun is adding Skyrim styled quests like murder mysteries, puzzle solving, ghost stories, avenge old guardians, recover lost relics, long questlines, faction questlines, that type of thing. Or adding actual cities where we can explore and find an abundance of things to do and buy. Surely there have got to be some cities left in the galaxy, right? We need more npc's in the game with more stories to tell and much more lore. We need enough items in the game to have an auction house. Player housing would be awesome too. Flying our ships would be great as well. All great ideas, but no one talks about them. This game can evolve into a great mmo sandbox, or it can continue to be a linear fps game with some matchmaking. A little imagination goes a long way.

1 ReplyFelwinter's is not OP. It is THE best PVP shotgun. Garnered from a PVP event. Any one who uses it and learns the damage drop off distance knows you still need to be close for it to OHK. The "sniper" diatribe is just hyperbole. It has great impact and great shotgun range with the perfect perk loadout that likely cost a lot of motes of light (over a hundred for me). It also leaves you exposed for the longest period of time after every shot compared to most other shotguns, which can be a challenge against groups or fast moving targets. I think in every category there will always be a few "bests". Tl;Dr. Great gun. Not OP.

7 RepliesI like the how there are players who say the gun is balanced and doesn't need to be nerfed and players cry about it. In reality its the only gun they use cause it towers over the other guns and they will never switch to anything else. If it's the most used shotgun in pvp it's for a reason jackass. You have no skill that's why it's fine for you to use it. If everyone used the same weapons there would be no point to having a variety of weapons and upgrading them. It would just be Halo. The limiting of crates didn't help either. Players are using the Last word and Thorn more to get around it. Instead of tweaking them to either it being OP or completely useless, because for some reason they never get it right just make hand cannons secondaries. That be a new way to test things and make the gameplay different too.

1 ReplyThe only people asking for a nerf are the players who don't have it.
-
I think they should permanently ban every player that cries nerf or mentions it. "Nerf babies" are the reason the weapons are like they are - thank yourselves and cry me a river. I've been killed by almost every shotgun in the game - Felwinter's is not the hand of God. I use several different Felwinter's with different perks - scrub crybabies still run right into it. I use hide and seek, the crash, judgement, blue shotguns and green ones too... get kills with all of them. Point blank = shotgun wins. At range with the right perks, shotgun wins. A shotgun shooting slugs has good range in real life... try firing a real weapon before you complain that a shotgun couldn't kill from that distance - they can. Handcannons have decent range in the right hands. I watch players stand in the open, stand in the control zone and run blindly across maps every match... this is what gets you killed - stupidity. Use cover, USE FIRETEAM CHAT and don't run right back to where you just got killed expecting to not get killed again.
-
They can't nerf the gun. The game doesn't work like that. The gun is rolled, meaning that the things you all complain about with this gun are all up to chance, people just reroll it. The only fix I could imagine that doesn't screw up the gun itself is to either make rerolling much more expensive, or to remove it overall. Every other legendary can't be rerolled, so why should the pvp exclusive ones be?
-
Takes no skill to use at all. Its a sniper.
-
4 RepliesIt's a stat padder right now. I saw a guy running it yesterday who had a career KD under 1 but with FW he was getting above 4.0 in the match. It is frustrating but shouldn't be nerfed. Sure it's got ridiculous range, but it's the custom rerolled perks that stretch the playstyle of the shotguns. The only solution I see for it is to buff the weapons meant to counter shotguns. ARs no longer have the stopping power to drop the Rush playstyle. Buff autos and you'll see them being countered better. If they nerf hand cannons right now, there'll be no escape.
-
I Don't play pvp , so don't care.....I wish I had one, sound fun for pve.
-
We just need bigger maps back in rotation really
-
Auto rifles getting a buff would help a lot to balance shotguns. Personally i like my hide and seek better. It has comparable impact and range with perks with vastly more stability and rate of fire. It also takes some skill to get used to countering shotgunners. The upside is once you can blink strikers are a breeze as well
-
Leave it like it is. I don't even have one, when I do I would like to see for myself how good it is.
-
2 Replies#NoMoreNerfs
-
Edited by Speppo82: 4/21/2015 3:44:11 PMNerf the range a lot, shootgun must be a close range weapons
-
1 ReplyNext, there will be a call for non Wolfpack rounds for gjallarhorn users or remove tracking... I'm not trying to be dismissive when I say this, but please stop with the "should such and such weapon be nerfed" posts. I know it's an opinion and I respect that. Every time Bungie retunes weapons, something turns out the way that some wants and then others loathe. As far as Felwinter, you have to be on point because while the range is phenomenal, the rate of fire is not fast compared to a few full auto shotguns that can drop you if you miss with the Felwinter's Lie.
-
1 ReplyTbh, I've got one and it's fully upgraded and, I really suck with it. Don't know if that means anything but I'm not skilled enough to use a shotgun. To me it just seems to be OP in skilled hands. It's not one of those guns that you can pick up and own with. Believe me, I've tried lol.
