This was bungie's plan all along.
Originally we saw great potential in the purple ball. It was worshipped as a God even for a time. Yet in the end we never thought much of it.
But perhaps we should have. The traveller is growing in strength, and so is the purple ball. Bungie obviously planned this from the beginning. Over the next 10 years, we shall continue to watch the purple ball grow. It shall continue to work Its way into our lives without us thinking anything of it. And one day in the end, when our legends Are just about made and the traveler begins to wake, the purple ball shall finally reveal it's true form.
Isn't it obvious? The darkness lies dormant beneath our very feet, and we mistake it for a simple toy. In the future, we shall have our final confrontation with the purple menace; who shall at the time become the same size as our traveler. Bungie has planned this evolution from the beginning, only now showing us the beginning stages.
You have been warned guardians.

It would only delay the inevitable. The purple ball has already reached the point of being able to regenerate at will. Countless attempts to throw it off or destroy it have proved futile. No, we can only wait for it reach its final evolution. When it is ready to strike, we must strike back swiftly. There shall be an opening, we only have to find it.

Well idk about you but as soon as Bungie unlocks the on-disc Reef Social Space I'm getting my ass out of the tower and heading away with my DO bros.

Indeed. In a deep slumber, reduced to a mere fraction of itself. It's power grows now. The glow makes it resemble a living egg of sorts. Soon a dark embryo shall form, and it shall one day hatch Into the very menace we have trained to fight for centuries.

A better storyline than anything they've come up with so far.

That's also part of the plan. Be extremely vague and confusing, give away nothing. So when the guardians are lost on their path to understand, the purple ball will strike. We will get small hints over time, and all the pieces will be there. We just won't be able to put it together until it happens.

I've kicked that thing off the tower so many times. Does it grow stronger with each departure?

It takes a little bit of strength for It to regenerate. You merely delay the inevitable by a mere few seconds.

We need to buy time.

Perhaps we can convince someone in the tower to keep throwing it off the edge while the guardians gather their strength. We need as many guardians to become legend as possible in able to stop it. Perhaps one of the sweeping bots can get a promotion.
