The Untold Story of Twilight Gap

I believe I have remained silent long enough... Perhaps for too long. Stories about the Battle of Twilight Gap have oft been told and retold by Titans, only they neglect to mention Us. I mean the Hunter Order of Alpha Lupi. Many of you know most of what happened at Twilight Gap. The Fallen Houses banded together to attack the City. They may have prevailed if not for the Titan counterattack led by Lord Shaxx. This isn't the whole story. Not by a long shot. On that fateful morning, Ana Bray, the leader of our Order and her fireteam caught wind of the planned assault by the Fallen. How they found out, I never did know... What I do know is that I, along with the other forty-nine members of the Order received a message from Ana Bray, requesting us to return due to "a real and imminent threat to the city." We dropped whatever hunt we were on and turned our Sparrows towards home. Ana wouldn't have called us unless the situation was dire. We gathered at our usual rally point about five miles from the city. It was just a cave we had repurposed as a field base during our first excursions outside the walls. We all looked to each other, hoping someone had more information on what we were rushing towards. None of us knew. Even if we did, that wouldn't have changed our course. When we were gathered, we headed towards the City. Just as we embarked we got a garbled message from Ana. "Fallen have.........Twilight Gap..... Too many...." Once again we looked to each other before we turned our Sparrows towards Twilight Gap. Not a word was spoken. None were needed. "The wolves of Alpha Lupi rely on the strength of the pack. Together, we will blaze new trails and lead the way to a New Golden Age. By our strength, we will endure, no matter the odds. Even if the path forward costs us our lives, we will strive forward. Forward, to our destiny!" The Creed of our Order rang in my ears, louder than the groan of my Sparrow as I pressed it to the limit. We soon reached the hill overlooking Twilight Gap. None of us were prepared for what we saw... All of the Fallen Houses pushing towards the City, some, it seemed, may have breached the walls. "Well this sure is a f***ing sh*tshow....." I heard Xander remark. Xander was one of my closest friends. We had fought countless enemies together, and no matter the odds, he just laughed in the face of death. We all knew that death would be permanent this time. Our ghosts would be destroyed before they could bring us back. We looked to each other one last time, fully aware this would probably be the last time some of us would be seen alive. "If this battle is gonna be my last, you better believe I'm not gonna go out like a b****" Xander remarked. I didn't need to see his face to know he was wearing his trademark sly smirk. I couldn't help a chuckle then... Our top ten snipers lay prone on the hill, invisible. As one, the rest of us charged down the hill. The Fallen were completely unaware of our approach. Just as we got close, our Gunslingers activated their Supers. Ten simultaneous sounds rang out, and the ten nearest Vandals to us dropped, headless as our snipers covered us now that we were heard. We let loose our Battle Howls. Fifty voices signaled the true start to our attack. Our Gunslingers showed no mercy. Golden bullets blazed a path into the heart of battle. The way forward now clear, Xander, myself, and the other Bladedancers activated our own supers, cleaving down huge swaths of Fallen as the Gunslingers powered down. Despite the massive casualties we inflicted, the Fallen line continued to advance on the City. The rhythmic shots from our snipers soon died down. I glanced over my shoulder and saw in that instant, they had been overrun. My grip tightened on my handcannon as I shot the head off a Vandal, wielding my knife in my off hand to stab and slice any Fallen that got too close. As I looked around the battlefield, I saw my friends, fighting, dying... but no Guardians left the walls of the City to help us push back the Fallen. They fired from the walls, but none came down. They believed us to be already doomed... I felt the ground rumble as a Devil Walker advanced forward. No sooner did I turn my head than I heard the howl... One of our Gunslingers lept into the air, directly in the path of the turret as he activated his super. Once... Twice.... he fired into the dark tunnel. On his third shot, just as he reached the turret barrel, the shot hit its mark; the loaded round aimed towards the walls. There was no chance for him to escape the blast, and I'm sure the instant his feet left the ground, he knew he wouldn't live to have them hit the ground again. I shielded my eyes from the blinding explosion... When I looked up, all that remained was his cloak... the pattern we all wore. The Strength of the Pack... The Devil Walker was gone, save for scattered pieces here and there... He had finished his last hunt... There was no time to grieve... Our numbers were already halved. At best estimate, twenty five of us still stood, battling the Fallen while little true support came from within the walls. Were they too scared to come out and face the Fallen out here? I later found out that the situation inside the walls was nearly as grim as ours. The order to all Titans was, "Stand your ground". Their hands were so full they had not yet realized that those breaching the walls were fewer now as Fallen diverted to destroy us. Those of us still standing pushed towards the walls, finding the remains of Ana Bray's fireteam... She alone still stood. I was the first to reach her. "How many of us still stand?" She inquired, rather casually given the gravity of the situation. "Including you and I, we number only twelve. Six Gunslingers, six Blades" I gritted my teeth, forced to face the harsh reality that so many had already perished. "Then we go all in." She remarked as if this were a game of poker as she gunned down an approaching Vandal. She pointed in the distance, past hordes of Fallen to the House of Devils' Kell, standing near the deep gorge that gave Twilight Gap its name. "We take our their Kell, their leadership will fall apart. It will cripple them." It seemed easy enough... "Gunslingers, clear us a path, the Blades will do the rest." We all nodded. It was suicide, but it was the only shot the City had. The Gunslingers activated their supers in unison as I, Ana, and the remaining Bladedancers crouched. Twelve howls rose above the sounds of battle as the Guns opened up. The six of us went invisible before rushing forward. I will never forget those six Gunslingers who opened the way. Even as all fire shifted to them, they fired until their golden guns were spent, then fired their primaries until their Light was extinguished. They got us all the way to the Kell's personal Captain guard...six sword wielding Captains stood in our way...we each took one... I managed to reach mine just as my invisibility ran out. Before he could react, I shoved my handcannon in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The others... weren't so fortunate... I saw Xander off to my right, perfectly copying my idea... but when he pulled the trigger, all that came out was a -click-. He was out of ammo, and way too close. What happened next, I will never forget... He laughed. "Just my luck..." A sickening squelch followed as the Captain ran its sword through Xander's stomach. I saw my friend pull his helmet off, his smirk still plastered on his face even as blood poured down his mouth. "I told you.... I ain't going out like a b****" I saw something glowing in his hand... A flux grenade. He punched it onto the Captain's face before he looked over at me, that smirk still on his face. "On you now. Give 'em hell for me." His eyes closed just as the grenade detonated, taking both Xander and the Captain with it. I only hope when my time comes, I can face death so bravely... A gunshot snapped me out of my stunned stupor, one of the other Captains falling at my feet. "Don't die on me yet, we still have one more target." Ana looked over at me. In that moment I realized we two alone remained and the Kell just laughed at us... it didn't take us seriously... "I hope you're ready.. it's time to knock this Kell down off his pedestal." Ana remarked. She didn't wait for me to answer, her Super activating as she rushed towards the Kell, dodging shots from his weapon as she finally hit, pushing him back towards the gorge. The Kell, of course, wouldn't die just to a few cuts... I realized what her plan was in that moment. I activated my own Super, reaching the Kell just as Ana's expired. I kept pushing him back, closer towards the edge. I was prepared to die, taking this Kell over the ledge with me. But just before I could make the last strike that would send him over, my Super ended, and the Kell backhanded me away, laughing at my weakness... It knew neither of us could use our Super now... It underestimated Ana Bray. One good blink jump and she grabbed its neck, dragging the Kell over the edge... I doubt she thought twice about it. I watched as they both disappeared over the edge, her last howl piercing the air before falling silent.. I crawled to the ledge, looking over to look for any sign of them, but it was too far... There was no way either of them survived... I heard a rallying cry come up from within the walls of the city. Lord Shaxx led the charge, the now leaderless Fallen in full retreat. We had won the day... It took several days to clear the battlefield... I laid my friends... my fellow wolves in fifty graves with as much of them as I could find. Each body I covered with their cloak.

 • Hunter fanboy fanfic. Doesn't coincide with the lore. Very few hunters were at twilight gap. And the ones that were... Hunters are useless in a straight up fight. They would have either crumbled or been a minor pain to a few dregs on the fringes. Lord Saladin commanded the troops. Titans led the battle. They provided the defenses and assault power to keep the fallen from overrunning our position. The warlocks attempted to use their abilities to push back the fallen, but were not wholly successful. And you suggest the Titans would not have acknowledged the contributions of any hunters present? That is a gross insult. Titans are honorable to a fault. They give credit where credit is due, and they would never even think of trivializing the sacrifice of another guardian, regardless of what class they may have been. Get your facts straight.
