I've been a biologist for 10 years and had never heard of "macro" or "micro" evolution before a creationist tried to start an argument about it. Where the hell did those terms come from?

Lol they tried to confuse people by eliminating a tendency for natural selection and adaptation. Evolution is powered by mutations (anomalies) and natural selection. Intelligent design proponents would try and convince people that the theory of evolution says it just happens for no rhyme or reason. It's simply a battle of semantics.

It's their bastardization of speciation v. unrelated mutation. They look at speciation at a tiny scale and call it its own thing.

You basically just answered your own question. Though In common vernacular, I tend to use them to differentiate between small adaptations that have little effect on reproduction and the point when those changes cause a species to no longer be able to breed with the other variant naturally.
