So Destiny has a lot of problems, but one which really sticks out is the lack of much to do after hitting 32 - besides raiding. And to be honest, once I (hopefully) get Fang, Song and Hunger I probably won't be doing that too much anymore.
Another problem is that after playing for enough time to get more than one character to 32, there are very few exotics you don't own. I got Universal Remote after a Nightfall and was just like "meh. I'd be excited had I not bought it a couple weeks ago."
So I thought up Nightfall Elite - repeatable content for max level characters.
What is Nightfall Elite?
Nightfall Elite, is a survival/horde mode for max level characters. It's the true end game content that so many MMOs struggle to implement.
Once a character has reached max level, this mode unlocks and is reset every week like a normal Nightfall or Weekly.
How Does It Work?
Here's where things are different. You must complete the Nightfall for the week to gain access. Upon completion you'll be given a choice of three buffs: Radiant Light, Impenetrable Light, and Offensive Light.
Radiant Light keeps it current function.
Impenetrable Light gives your Guardian an increased defensive stat for use in Nightfall Elite only. While Offensive Light buffs your attack for use in Nightfall Elite only.
Nightfall Elite supports 4-man fireteams that defend specific points on a map against waves of enemies - all of which are Majors - for a total of 10 waves. Naturally, waves become more difficult the deeper you go, with a sub boss fight at wave 5 and a boss fight that lasts through waves 9 and 10.
And of course because it's a Nightfall, Nightfall rules apply and is subject to the same modifiers.
So... What Do We Get?
How about exclusive exotic and legendary armor and weapons? That's right. Nightfall Elite features loot that can't be had anywhere else. An exotic weapon of each type along with new exotic armor pieces for each class. Not to mention exclusive Legendaries that can be rerolled.
Ascendant Shards won't be in the loot table!
But that's not all.
Now you can brag about how much you use your favorite gear. Kill 1,000 Hallowed Thrall with an LDR? Cool, now you can choose to have the title of Thrall Killer attached to it for everyone to see. Not only will it carry the title, but will have a special perk that activates only when you kill one with that LDR - no matter what mode you're playing. So not only is survival and victory key, but also how you go about it. Think strategically about what you use to kill certain enemies to build the best loadout you can. Who wouldn't want a Minotaur Wrangler Fatebringer?
Perhaps you've worn Ruin Wings in the process of killing 1,000 Fallen Captains. How about you take less damage from them for now on when wearing them?
It's important to note, only one title can be active on any specific gear at one time. However, all your gear can feature a title simultaneously. To change the title, you'll have to consult the Gunsmith and for a small fee of course. This is an MMO afterall. Also note, you will not lose the ability to switch back to another title you used previously.
Nightfall Elite can be repeated throughout the week, but exotics and legendaries will only drop throughout your first completion of specific waves for that week. After that, you can earn currency to reroll ANY legendary weapon you have - even if it's not earned in Nightfall Elite. You also spend time to earn titles for your favorite gear to build your ideal loadout.
You may ask why exclusive exotic and legendary gear? Because it's disappointing to go through tough content only to be rewarded with something you got 3 levels ago. This isn't about elitism (despite the name lol), it's about allowing max level players to enjoy the game and still have a chance to earn things that they couldn't before.
What Happens When the Level Cap Rises?
Simple, you get another rank of Nightfall Elite! So we'd currently be enjoying Nightfall Elite I or to keep it simple, Nightfall Elite 32. If/when the cap is raised to say... 34, Nightfall Elite 32 will still be around for 32s and 33s to enjoy. However Nightfall Elite 34 will also be introduced for characters of lvl34 only - with new exotics, legendaries, titles and perks to earn.
Questions? Thoughts? Love it? Hate it?
