The problem with denying zombies is that there are so many different forms of zombies. You've got you classic virus that speads through bites/scratches, then you've got those that spread through blood/saliva, or those that are airborne, or waterborne, and then you've got virus that simply make you go batshit, viruses that only infect the dead, you've got bacteria, you've got fungi (TLOU FTW), man made diseases (The Stand FTW too), the supernatural, head crabs, ect...

But then again, there are virulent and more progressive strains of diseases that actually exist in the world and have effected humans if not lower tier species. What I'm saying is that you should be more terrified of Ebola. And the CDC has been on that super thoroughly, I worked with a woman who was with the CDC and I went from being worried about Ebola, to baffled that someone came up with a system architecture to combat health threats that so aptly gets things right... She was cute too though, so naturally that improved my resolve concerning the CDC.

  • The fungi form, what the last of us was based on, is a real fungi that infects small insects, not sure if you're aware.

  • Regardless of the cause, any zombie isn't gonna last long due to natural processes.

  • Have you actually researched this in zombie lore more deeply? Because zombies, as a side effect of the virus, dont rot the same as, say, a dead cow. The virus actually staves off rot for considerably longer than a normal dead body would last. They are essentially unaffected by predators, because animals refuse to eat them, and most bacteria are actually killed off by the virus itself so they degrade very slowly.

  • The principle behind the idea is there. Zombie virus lethal to most bacteria. Therefore, Fewer bacteria to rot zombie. Therefore, Zombie rots slower because of reduced bacteria. It is a pretty straightforward concept.

So the zombie virus would accomplish this how? Its not straightforward when you actually look at how that stuff works. It has to interact with the host somehow.

  • Yeah it is pretty straightforward. Zombie infects human - virus spreads/reproduces in host - host becomes poisonous to bacteria and animals.
