An idea to bring old Raid weapons back up to par!

Edit: Well guys, our dreams and aspirations have finally become a reality. Bungie listened to us and it looks like they may be implementing a similar process to upgrade old Raid Gear to the current light level in HoW! Thank you so much Bungie for caring about us and listening/reading our ideas on the forums. <3 Check out the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqvwtE7O6kY Hey guys and @Bungie , So ive been juggling this idea for a while now and wanted to see what you guys all thought about it. So we all love the old raid weapons from the Vault of Glass. Not only that but alot of the new raid weapons from Crotas End are really cool too. So when the next DLC (House of Wolves) drops we know that these weapons will become outdated in PvE. The Vault of Glass weapons will become much worse in their damage output in comparison to now, and the Crotas End weapons will become comparable to what the VOG weapons are now. This kinda stinks, ALOT. So ive been thinking of not only a creative way to bring these weapons into the next expansions AND an easy way for Bungie to implement it. I call it "Overpower Light Level"
Now i know all you Borderlands 2 fans are going to call me out on the whole Overpower level thing, but hey, it sounds good and it works!
So simply put, Old Raid weapons will have the option of becoming "Overpowered" once they have been maxed out. This will only increase their Number damage (Ex Fatebringer damage goes from 300 - 331). This is an option that you may exercise by talking to Banshee-44 in the tower. He will take Motes of light and use them to upgrade your weapons. It may take a few upgrades in order to achieve the full damage level but you can get there. You can see what tier your weapons are at and then how many upgrades it takes to get them to the next Weapon Light level by inspecting your weapon. Thanks for reading! I hope this gets around enough that Bungie might be able to use it in some way, shape or form.

  • Better idea. Add a "Heroic" VoG with lvl 33-35 enemies...This will drop 36 light level armor/331 VoG weapons. And I say keep the drop rate low. So there will be replay value. Plus then 32s won't only have 2 sets of armor to choose from.

    • Been saying this for a while, they need to make sure that they don't offer upgrades for each specific weapon like Xur does, but instead offer them similar to how the telemetries work. Buy a "Sniper Upgrade Package" so you can use it on a 300/331 attack sniper, and so on and so forth. Make it cost so many motes or whatever. Maybe it adds onto the weapon upgrade chart another row of 3 attack upgrades that require more ascendant/radiant energy.

        • Yeah, I understand Vault of Glass weapons were better overall in comparison to Crota's End weapons, but if you do it for those then it's going to be requested each tier and that defeats the purpose. It doesn't allow them to reuse old perks or bring something back in the future if you've already had them and it's just not a good design for this game. It's sad yes, because I love my Fatebringer, but I'm sure there's going to be weapons that will become ones new favorite. But with that remember, outside of raids, those weapons are still as powerful while you're on patrol or doing any of the content that isn't part of the DLC because of the scaling. Obviously it's not the case if you're a bit lower in level or doing a higher strike, but there's many ways for you to still have fun with them.

        • They don't need to and shouldn't. What's the point of new guns when you can get old new guns that preform just as good. All you do is make power creep a real easy thing.

          • I think with each new expansion, all non-current raid weapons should be upgradable to be on par the weapons from the previous raid.

          • Not bad but I'd make it more specific. I would like a lvl 34 VOG that drops an engram that bumps Whatever that raid weapon is up to the new damage. Eg get a fate Bringer overload, take to gun smith and 10 motes of light reforge to new attack, it could be an open engram. For any weapon just nice to have a reason to raid again !

          • I like this idea or create an event similar to Queen's wrath that gives you the ability to upgrade a legendary.

          • I like the idea! If I may add a suggestion, think of the weapon upgrade screen. You could have a button on the right (or to make it simpler have tabs for when more DLC comes out) that swaps you to a "DLC Upgrade screen" It would go something like this: VANILLA > TDB > HOW > COMET Each DLC screen would have 3 or so weapon damage upgrades that would be available to upgrade only after you've completed the DLC's main story

            • There is a major hurdle in all of this... Vault space. There isn't room now for all the weapons available. There will certainly be more in a projected 10-year lifespan. Weapons were always intended to fade in time. It's the game's progression, and one of the few incentives to keep playing. New gear, new guns.

            • Meh every old content in MMO style games becomes irrelevant as the new content drops. Besides making old gear good again just makes it so bungie doesn't have to get very creative with new exotics or make as many new guns.

              • I remember in WoW this wasn't a problem? Why is it one now? As you progress you use the better weapons.

              • Respectfully, I must say I have to disagree with you. Implementing this would destroy the gradual progression that your characters make along the course of the game. Think of it as a staircase. You're trying to get to the top but when you take away the first step it makes it harder.
