Edited by Breaking Gale: 2/21/2015 12:26:32 AMMake sure you run a speed test by using speedtest.comcast.net before they leave. The 105 is only guaranteed hard wired, so if it's wireless it will be less. If you get our gateway you can go in and change the wifi password by typing in 10.0.0.1 into your address bar. the login is name: admin password: password Then you click connection, Wifi, then edit to change your network name/password. Some techs will show you this, but I know a lot that don't. 2) I've never had any problems with the WiFi, but the best thing to do is to use your own router 3) There is a data cap on internet usage so be careful 4) Wireless Phones, Microwaves, Mirrors, and even Xmas lights can interrupt your WiFi signal if they are too close 5) I would have the modem installed near your gaming system so you can hard wire it (ethernet from modem to the back of the gaming system) it is way more reliable that way 6) Have the router/wireless gateway install on the lower level of your floor (wifi signal goes up and comes down like an invisible waterfall) and have it put in near the middle of your house away from exterior walls 7) The internet will run through Coax cable, not any time of CAT5 (ethernet, phone) wiring

The router is going in my home office and I already have an ethernet cable running to my ps4 so I don't have to worry about wifi. What's this about a data cap? Destiny uses quite a bit I know my family loves streaming
-
Yeah I can't remember how much it is exactly. I always go over because of Destiny lol
-
From the research I've been doing it looks like comcast has a 300gb data cap (a guy I talked to said the at&t plan I've been on has 150gb cap haha didn't have a clue) and as for what destiny uses it looks like 100-300mb per hour more if playing crucible for some reason. But one of the articles I read said if your running a business from a home office they have to remove it, so thank god my girlfriend is a bookkeeper with a home office haha. I'm gonna talk to the guys when they install it and make sure everything is legit.

Edited by Raison detre Xx: 2/21/2015 5:48:22 AMI have the extreme 105 from Comcast and I don't think it's business class either. When I go to the website to check how much data I've used each month, it says that they removed the cap. When I had the 50meg package, my cap was 250GB a month, but I never even hit that cap, and that's with three Xbox Ones (also two 360's), a laptop, a desktop, and two phones on wifi. They seem to remove the cap when you get that high of Internet speed. Also, 105 is just advertised, but I usually get 125mbps down, maybe more at times.

Well in my house is 1 ps4 3 tvs with apple tv and chromecast 3 tablets 3 smartphone. I bought the package for 105mps so maybe my package is uncapped I'll talk to the install guy on monday.
-
Oh yeah if you're business class then more power to you lol
-
So is that like a upgrade I'd have to pay for?
-
Yeah it costs more. it's a whole separate thing from residential. We have Residential Techs and we have Business class techs. With Business class you get unlimited data and a 4 hour response time (instead of the usual 2-3 day response with Residential because there is always a Commercial tech on call)
-
Do you know how much data a typical residential household would use monthly?
-
[quote]Do you know how much data a typical residential household would use monthly?[/quote Well it's going to be different for everybody. Just depends on the number of people, how much streaming and how much downloading everybody does. It's a monthly cap and you can login to Comcast.net to see where you are on data usage

Thanks for all your help, we live out in the country so I won't have to worry about neighbors piggybacking out signal and as of now we don't do too much streaming so think we'll be fine. Again thanks for all the help and info
