Lorde is definitely not rock at all. She's classified under alternative, I believe.
But your choice words had better be kind ones. She's an outstanding artist that matches the creativity of all of those that you named.

Yes she is creative, but seriously I felt LP should have won the MTV Music Award over her. Until It's Gone was from a technical and lyrical standpoint a new direction for them. True it had similar lyrical content as to most stuff from Hybrid Theory but Until It's Gone dug deeper in my opinion in terms of expressing emotions and playing on the overall lyrical content. Royals was just a clever use of beats and lyrical accompaniment.

I think most of LP's stuff is recycled. Lorde's entire album was very focused on social issues growing up in our generation with an interesting and engaging commentary on the state of society. She shows a true understanding of what her fame means, what it means to her, and how it is perceived. She is a very cerebral individual, and her music is very solid and thematic, with beautiful lyrics. I would say it is not correct at all to say all her music is is a cool beat with accompanying lyrics. That's just not the case. I'd pick her over LP any day. It's a matter of opinion though, I suppose
