New Hunter Subclass Idea: Bowpiercer (Void)

Hunter Void Subclass:[b] Bowpiercer[/b] (Or Archer as I like to call it. I however tried to name it in a similar style to the Bladedancer and Gunslinger) "The Light that pierces through any darkness" [b]Explanation[/b] There is currently no void hunter that exists so when thinking about new subclasses I wanted to keep with the general theme of it being a single kill oriented guardian. Right now we have a close range assassin (bladedancer) who is good at taking out smaller targets (including guardians) and a mid range all-rounder (gunslinger) being the more versatile choice. Most people agree Hunters generally aren't as good as other guardians like warlocks and titans in PvE. What if we had a hunter subclass focused on further range and big damage to single targets? More namely, bosses. [b]Description/Bio[/b] This subclass focuses on taking out large or high health single targets. Having the least recovery/armor of any guardian, you'll want to keep at a distance and get hit as little as possible, depending on your teammates to have your back in closer encounters with the enemy. Use certain guns to better help cover this classes's weaknesses. Where this subclass really shines is in PvE boss battles when your trying to take out the target as quickly as possible. A reclusive Hunter hiding at the distance. Never wanting to be seen but always watching you waiting for the perfect shot to end it all. These Hunters draw a mysterious light energy from the Traveler that purges any darkness it come into contact with. [b]Abilities[/b] [b]Super: Piercing Light[/b] Enter a mode much like the gunslinger's golden gun where you mysteriously pull out a void bow with one shot (can be changed to be more in class upgrade tree) Once activated, you can not move except for where your aiming and you can zoom in for a more precise shot. The arrow does more damage then a golden gun shot and does a ton of critical damage. [b]Melee: Dark Purge[/b] [b]Standard[/b] (without modifications): Slash your knife at the enemy to transfer a mysterious light energy from the Traveler that consumes the enemy over a long period of time. Upgrades [b]Contagious Light[/b]: An enemy infected by the damage-overtime affect will have a small radius in which other enemies will get the same affect if they get in the small radius of any infected. (This is to help add some much need crowed control to the class for dealing with swarms of enemies.) [b]Undying Light[/b]: Increase the amount of time the affect lasts (Probably most useful against guardians in PVP) [b]Driven Light[/b]: A beam is released from the blade that travels in a straight line and has the same affect as a standard "Dark Purge" attack. (This is good against huge bosses as you won't usually miss your shot and you can end up dealing an extra set of damage to them. On top of that, you will end up doing more damage to bosses then low tier enemies because they die out before they endure all the damage of the affect.) [b]Grenades:[/b] [b]Leech Grenade[/b]: Does bonus damage when attached to target. Unlike Flux grenade, it can't gravitate towards the enemy however it ends up doing more damage to the targets it sticks to. (excellent for big bosses that are easy to hit) [b]Lich Grenade[/b]: A damage-overtime grenade that explodes, releasing a light that consumes those it comes in contact with. (much like the Dark Purge melee attack or Incendiary grenade) [b]Trench Grenade[/b]: A long lasting glowing mine/grenade that latches to where you throw it and has a small (unseen) circular enemy detecting radius. (Good for keeping your back safe while you snipe or killing an unsuspecting enemy.) [b]First row of class upgrades[/b] [b]Consuming Light[/b]: Trigger healing whenever you hit an enemy with one of your abilities. [b]Brilliant Light[/b]: Your critical hits with Piercing Light do even more damage. [b]Eternal Light[/b]: Have two shots with Piercing Light instead of one. [b]Second row of class upgrades[/b] [b]Far Gaze[/b]: Longer zooming range with Piercing Light [b]Light's Abyss[/b]: Gain an additional Leech grenade. (Only usable when Leech Grenade is equipped) [b]Steady Aim[/b]: Be suspended in the air when zoomed in for precise shots. (Like the Sunsinger Angel of Light ability.) [b]Jumping[/b] Don't really feel like being creative on this one =P I'm not going to go into the details of the upgrade tree that change the stats of the subclass as that would be a issue for Bungie I would not be able to properly balance. [b]Question[/b]: Should I do more of these? [b]Final Thoughts[/b] Now, I may have made this class a little too powerful but hey, its just my very first ideas on it and if it were to become a thing then it would get more balanced out. Also, I know I use the word light in a lot of the abilities but thats my style and its easier to do =P I actually main a titan and barely play my Hunter but when I was thinking of subclasses this sounded really cool to me as a new one for hunters. What are your thoughts?

  • I like your melee better but my idea was: Hunter - Void subclass [b]Specter[/b] "Haunt your foes with the power of the void." Grenades: •Wraith: Goes in a straight line after being thrown and chases anyone it goes near •Shade: Breaks on impact & blinds enemies •Bind: Damages enemies & slows movement speed Blink: •Better Control: Blinks where you are looking(instead of where you are moving) •Increased Distance: Blink goes farther •Shadow Bridge: Jumping while sprinting creates a ghost bridge under your feet that you can jump from again Super: Phantom Bow - Summon a phantom bow that shoots a cone of arrows, killing anyone they touch(or doing massive damage in the case of a boss/ultra •Echo: The points of contact pulsate damaging nearby enemies •Ghost: You become transparent for a short while after activating your super •Armored Archer: Gain increased protection while your super is active Hidden Blade: Teleports behind target & deals extra damage •Toxic Edge: Poisons target, causing damage over time •Vampiric Touch: Grants a shield if target is killed •Ambush: Grants invisibility for a short time Stats 1: •Path Forgotten: Speed & toughness •Path Forbidden: Battle recovery & speed •Path Unknown: Battle recovery & toughness Perks 1: •Rogue Movement: Move faster and slide farther •Evasion: Gain slight damage protection while invisible •Bending Light: Harder to see while invisible Stats 2: •Way of the Drifter: All Attributes •Way of the Fearless: Toughness at all costs •Way of the Nomad: Maximum battle recovery Perks 2: •The Escape: Gain invisibility when weak •Scavenge: Ammo pickups reduce grenade and melee cool downs •Large Quiver: Reduces cool down of Super

      • The new hunter subclass shouldn't be a dps type, hunters need a support class like sunsinger or defender. They need something to make hunters more useful in pve, they're already the best for pvp.

        • Honestly, I think that hunters need a subclass that will have a panic super. Run into a crowd unexpectedly, super, and boom they all gone. Golden gun can get rid of a few, blade dancer too but that if you think about it, you have to press the trigger for as many enemies there are. Neither is really a panic.super.

        • Why not make the bow able to overpenetrate and annihilate multiple regular or low level elite targets? And also add a concussing effect ability upgrade, maybe called Ballista or something, and use it for high level elite enemies or bosses that will make them confused and disoriented, and potentially make them stop attacking or damage/kill friendly units for around 10-12 seconds instead of just making them stagger. But the catch would be only if you hit the elite target first, instead of over penetrating regulars first and then hitting the elite, would the concuss go in effect. Would be great for when you have a huge amount of enemies in a train behind you and you just wanna get rid of them

          • So we have intergalactic pirates, a race of self aware, possibly time traveling, teleporting robots that turned an entire planet into one giant machine in a matter of days. A race of 800 pound highly trained and militarized, mini rocket launcher, grenade launcher, armoured to the tits type mother-blam!-ers who "blow up moons and planets just for getting in their way"..... And I will take all these cock suckers down... With a bow. HA Do I need to mention that is was the "golden age" of humanity and were using jumpships to explore and colonize planets on the edges of our solar system.. Am I saying that there WON'T be a bow or crossbow like weapon in this game? No, I just don't seem the logic of putting one in

              • Sounds cool but there needs to be a subclass for Hunter with more "support" abilities. Maybe when this super is activated you can choose to have a perk give the fireteam Hugh agility/evasion buff. Or team members in close proximity get stability buff for 15-20 secs.

                        If you are doing it for writing practice, personal gratification, or just plain enjoyment, then do more of these. I liked it. The abilities and grenades sound awesome. I especially liked the melee with long lasting DoT. That is a very cool idea. I wish one of the classes had that. If you are doing it in hopes of Bungie actually using your idea, I wouldn't waste my time. We can't even get them to fix the glitches in their only two raids. They aren't capable of adding new content.

                        • These were some ideas I came up with a while ago. There just ideas so I didn't really a temp to balance it. Void Drifter- fade into the void. Invisibility while eating the life away from enemies around you. Upgrade to make the life drained go to you or increase range or effectiveness. Certain exotics add a damage debuff to those affected by the super. Solar Spartan- a aegis shield that defends with left bumper and a spear that pierces all things. You get an over shield. Walk slow with shield up. Shield can be broken and spear can be thrown but it ends the super. You can upgrade to either focus on defense by getting rid of your shield or an upgrade that gets rid of your shield but you get two spear throws and it's more powerful. Certain exotics grant a explosion when over shield is depleted. Arc Sage-you gain sage knowledge and transcend into a being of arc. Gain the ability of flight as well as a speed boost. You can do volley type arc bolts. Certain exotics add a stun effect. Alternatively, you can do a single arc bolt strike that uses all of your sage energy. It's more powerful the earlier it is used and if used immediately, it's more powerful then 3 golden gun shots.
