Idea: Locking Legendary and Exotic Items from being Dismantled

(Note: TL;DR at bottom. Also, I have a decent amount of intro writing so I have bolded the part with the idea if you want to get right to the point) Hi all! First forum post here with an idea that I believe will calm many destiny loot collectors. I’ve read many guardians’ horror stories expressing their grief at them losing an exotic or legendary item they’ve spent hours obtaining usually because of a family member, friend, or enemy dismantling an item either on purpose or by accident. After hearing these stories, I no longer have any interest in letting one of my friends play Destiny using my profile locally or via SharePlay. I’m sure many guardians would agree but of course I could be mistaken. Regardless, I have an idea which would allow anyone to play on someone’s Destiny account without any fear of losing their precious items. My idea is this: instead of being able to freely dismantle exotic and legendary items we've worked so hard to upgrade, why not set up an option to lock them with a 4 digit passcode. How would this work practically? Well... you would log into your bungie.net account and under “Settings" there will be be a tab labeled “Item Lock Password". From there you can establish a 4 digit code of your choosing. If you forget it, that's ok! Just log into your bungie.net account and change it. Obviously, it’ll confirm it’s you on your computer and not your angry sibling and ask you for your bungie.net password before giving you the opportunity to change it. In the game when you receive an exotic or legendary item it will be unlocked for dismantling by default so you don't have to enter your password every time you obtain a legendary or exotic item you know you're going to dismantle right away. Once you realize you want to keep the item, you hit a button of Bungie's choosing to lock it so it can't be dismantled. A confirmation screen pops up and you select "Yes" to lock the item. When you want to unlock the weapon or armor piece just hit the unlock button, type the 4 digit code you created on bungie.net and dismantle. Let me know what you all think! TL;DR - Allow the player to lock their items via a 4 digit passcode they set up on their bungie.net account. This way an enemy can't deliberately dismantle a legendary or exotic item or the the owner of the account can't accidentally do the exact same thing unless the owner as a direct intention of dismantling the item.

 • Id like a simple system like that but even make the password optional. I carry multiple sets of armor and have a large collection of weapons. When i get a bunch of stuff to break down i still have very valuable gear in my inventory. Most of the time this is not an issue but I have caught myself a few times beginning to break down something that I wanted to keep. It finally happened and i dismantled a chest piece i use when switching from scout to hand cannon. Increasing my effectiveness with both guns. Not a huge disaster but quite annoying. It seems this would have been implemented in a loot based game but no. One more neglected part of a game with great potential.
