Destiny NEEDS a Healer Subclass

(Don't worry, this thread isn't about bashing the Sunsinger, read the title; and please, keep the insults about my mother light :) ) Lately people have been bashing the usefulness of the Sunsinger warlock subclass... And I can't help but go along with it. When I knew I was getting Destiny, I did my research on the Warlock subclasses, as I knew I wanted to be a warlock ever since that first e3 vidoc. Now when I first saw the name "Sunsinger" I immediately thought "Oh, so it's like a healer?". If you ask me that's what the Sunsinger sub should've been all along, a Healer, not some boring old grenade spammer. And the more I think about it the more I see this subclass fitting into the world of Destiny. [Other MMOers and RPGers can understand what I'm going through here, honestly, why is it Destiny try's to act like an RPG but doesn't actually do anything RPG-wise; but I suppose that's a conversation for a later day.] Here are my ideas on the subject: The warlock's melee would, when hitting a teammate, take off a portion of their super energy in addition to melee, but heal the player from a distance. The Warlock's super would create a ring around the caster that, when a teammate would step in, would increase health regeneration by 20-30%. This Ring, unlike the Ward, would follow the caster but he himself would not heal any faster as to keep things on an even playing field. Perhaps this might seem overpowered to you other classes, but just stay with me here for a moment. Isn't the Suros op? Would you argue the Titan Ward is op? With the right amount of fine tuning I believe bungie could do this for a fix on the Sunsinger (In my opinion, and other mmo/RPG players what it properly should be); or gift this to another class, for future DLC maybe? Or better yet! As a free piece of content for Bungie's loyal fanbase! (Yeah... That'll happen) For those of you who actually want to help your team in addition to also getting kills (I know there has to be Some of you out there!) this could be a worthy addition to a coming DLC that I would love to take part in! TL:DR
New Healer Subclass Addition • Melee directly heals Teammates (Still damages enemies) • Super creates a "Ring of Healing" that increases Health Regeneration much faster by 20-30% and follows the caster (Does not affect caster, no faster health rejuvenation) -New Subclass could be proper way to substitute Sunsinger Conundrum or Add a new future subclass for DLC.
Edit 1: Okay, I can understand why people wouldn't want this. You came from call of duty, never played an MMO, have no sense of team, only play deatmatch, and have never played a good Blood Gulch CTF game in your entire life. If your one of those people then I get it. But I don't understand it. Destiny isn't exactly encouraging solo-play, so idk. You have fun lone-wolfing it. Although that term is probably lost with Reach. Edit 2: The "Ring" is a concept I borrowed from Skyrim (A fantastic game for ALL Rpg players) where you can cast a magic protective ring around yourself that heals you and keeps enemies out (Don't remember what it's called, I'll look it up later). Obviously I left the "keeping people out part" for balance but the basic principles are all still there. (I know this didn't originate in skyrim, but that's what I'm thinking of when I think of of a visual representation for the subclass) Edit 3: Wow! some great feedback here guys! Keep it up! Edit 4: Trending, wow! I'm going to be posting a response to the most common seen comments and criticisms and provide a link, or I could put it in a normal format other than that, idk. I'll think of something. Edit 5: I myself have a serious problem with the Orb system that Destiny presents. The orbs are produced but there is no visual indicator (beside some small lines of text in the corner of the screen). For one, the Sunsinger would be a viable subclass for me if there was just more of a visual representation of how your actually helping your teammates. 1. "Using a healer would be useless and would not fit into Destiny at all, and there would never be a situation where we would actually use this."
Obviously what we're talking about isn't a straight up in the most technical term "Healer", what we're discussing is some who can manipulate that period in your shields when they are completely down. That is our target picture where this would be useful. That being said, I do believe a "Healer", noting it as the term we've laid above would be useful and could base itself I'm the world of Destiny based on one simple fact, every player ALREADY has a regeneration factor that can be changed in your subclass with special perks. The super would manipulate this factor for everyone by a significant percent to essentially where they could keep shooting an enemy and regenerate much "health". When I think of when and where this could be useful I imagine myself behind that one door and pressure area we all know of in Blind Watch, the common Mars map in most game types. Say while a warlock is closer against the railing still shooting but behind cover the Titans could jump out of cover and shoot the enemy while he runs from the warlocks bullets, effectively earning the kill and the warlock gaining a support accomedation.
P.S- for anyone interested in a good group of friends to find for raiding and such, join us in the Xbox Clan: HolyHandGrenade.

  • Why don't they just change one of the grenades to a healing one? Kinda like an aoe that heals allies for 3-4 seconds.

  • I'll only support this if my Titan gets a tanking subclass where my secondary attack summons a big ass shield that soaks up damage. Also my passives make AI enemies more likely to attack me :) The class is called "Irish Car Salesman."

    • I have played a lot of mmo and RPG games that have healers. And I can see your point in a way but. Our health regens and shields do to. No potions ect healer is pointless. Take cover

    • It's not supposed to be an mmo but it is because you need the doc to progress so it is an mmo Bungie wants to have guns be the number one priority to not make it an mmo No subscription fee so less frequent buffs an nerfs and patches and overpriced low content docs to pay for these slow moving out "free updates" This is why we will never get a healer that would make this game have raid strats and raid teams. This would make bungee sick

      • Would be cool if a new subclass had a Titan bubble-like super but instead of a shield it revived any teammates in the circle. Would be great for raids

      • Saw a post awhile ago pointing out that the Sun doesn't sing, it singes. So instead of reading that subclass as Sunsinger, it should be Sun Singe-R. This would explain all the grenade spamming for that class. Mind blown!

        • I play RPGs and I hated Skyrim. It got rid of all the fun things that existed in the ES games before it. But I also thought Sunsinger would be a healer class. Would make teamwork happen if you had to be in the ring to heal. Yet the weakness would be that you're all in the open in one area to take advantage of the buff so as to not be overly OP.

          • The SunSinger class already has the ability to increase the speed of nearby allies grenade and super charge. Include a choice on the same level of the training tree that provides a slow HoT that is only triggered when out side the radius of the SunSingers area of influence. The HoT will only act to heal 20% of the guardians total health.

          • Posted this in another thread but here it is again. Arc warlock subclass that had a path to be true support while offering paths for offense.
Class: Storm Caller Grenades: Static Field Explodes and creates an area of effect that slows any enemies trapped inside. Lightning Rod Calls down a bolt of lightning at the point of impact and launches enemies away from the point of impact. Electro Magnet When attached to an enemy it draws nearby enemies towards it and explodes. If not attached to an enemy it only explodes. Melee: Lightning Bolt A bolt travels from your hands in a straight line. Can cause precision damage. Perks Flash: A precision hit blinds your enemy Chain Lightning: Can no longer crit, but chains to two nearby enemies. Overcharge: A kill with lightning bolt grants an overshield to you and two nearby allies. Super: Lightning Cage Lightning explodes from you creating a dome of lightning that does an initial burst of damage and continuous damage to enemies inside. Perks Battery: Your Lightning Cage continuously charges the shields of allies inside of it. If shields are full it charges an overshield. Short circuit: Your Lightning Cage blinds enemies in range on activation and creates a second burst of damage. There is no lingering dome or continuous damage. Defibrillate: Your lightning cage revives any dead guardians in its range on activation. Guardians revived do 50% damage for 6 seconds after being revived in this way. Jumps Same as Void Walker. Perk Tree 1 Control the Winds Your Glide abilities have increased duration and speed. Blink has its distance increased. Capacitors The duration of over shields created by your abilities is increased. Melee attacks against you while over shielded damage the attacker. One with the storm Blink is reduced to one charge but creates an explosion and blinds enemies at both the position you activated it from and where you blink to. Perk Tree 2 Arc Weapons While you and your allies are under the effect of an overshield from one of your abilities, weapons do additional arc damage. Blink Grenades Your Grenades teleport instantly to their location in a straight line. No limit on distance. Friendly Fire Allies in the range of your grenades or struck by your lightning bolt have their shields recharged and do increased weapon damage for 5 seconds. Edit: Tried to balance between support and offense. There is a direct path to being a true support character while also having fun offensive options. Just a dream for me and something I had fun thinking up :)
• Defenders are close, as they provide blessings for teammates in their bubbles. Blade Dancers are good medics, since they can go invis for revives. Sun Singers can even accelerate melee and grenade cool downs for nearby teammates. Now, what I would like to see integrated from classic MMORPGs is melee weapons in the special slot. Different variations could provide different effects like swords increasing speed while hammers increase strength. As far as healers, Bungie has a chance to do something with an Arc Warlock, but they need to be mindful of those that choose to go solo with said subclass. Healers are for team activities, and many players choose not to run with a team. It would need to benefit the individual player, as well as his/her team.

            • Healing seems almost worthless but being able to make health regen instant would be awsome. The main issue is that we cannot see one anothers health bar and calling out for heals all the time would just be messy.

            • Healing isn't really needed. The game is designed to have the fireteam work together to take out enemies before you get killed. Rather than your buddy healing you after you get hit, better that he takes out the enemy about to shoot at you and you never take damage at all. Also revives are super easy and there are guns and perks that can heal you. We do just fine without a 'healer class' as it is and having one could potentially unbalance the game. Imagine fighting in the crucible against a team of enemies that all heal each other non stop. While it's a nice thought, healers would just cause more problems than they might solve.

            • read destiny needs a healer subclass, couldn't read anymore, why make a pathetically easy game easier? there needs to be at least one or two things that are impossibly difficult, then and only then will this game become fun again.

                • It's nice and all... It's just probably not going to happen... Bungie said before that they don't want designated class roles like that. You would probably see posts like "Healers only" when looking for raid groups, and wouldn't really be able to choose how you play to some extent. Plus reaction time would have to be so high in most situations for a healer to actually pull their own weight. Most wipes would be "your fault". I feel like your DPS matters a lot more in any given situation than healing the person you happen to be next to.

                  • Don't change a sub-class create a new one, in this case recovery Warlock - heals teammates and has a super that sucks the life out of enemies Titan - allows those in the team to carry more max ammo and occasionally gives a small amout of ammo to nearby players, super gives all players in the team unlimited ammo for a short time (not heavy in PvP) Hunters - skills recover faster for all teamed players, super recovers skills even faster and provides faster rof and lower recoil hor all players weapons

                  • No make the 3rd class more useful. I understand how a healer sounds cool. IMO I would rather just a class that buffs a whole bunch of stuff for the team.
