Accomplishment Based Vanity Items and Why We Need Them

I stopped playing Destiny a week ago due to the recent changes Bungie made to the game with the DLC and overall burn out with the experience. My main issue is that there was almost no recognition of time played and accomplishments by players before the DLC. A player that started destiny with the drop of the dlc, other than some quick levelling and material gathering, was in almost the exact same position as players who have several hundred hours of play time. This has all been said before many times on many threads so I won't go through this issue in depth. What is the solution to this? More Vanity/Cosmetic Items I believe more vanity items that represent player milestones would go a long way to alleviating the sting that the dlc brought dedicated players. We should have shaders, emblems, ships, and skins that, while having no effect on gameplay, act as trophies for accomplishments and milestones we reach in game. This is an ideal solution for Bungie because it allows them to cater to multiple play styles, and allows them to please both the hardcore and casual players without upsetting balance. It also has the added benefit of addressing the issue of a lack of uniqueness amongst guardians. It would allow for players to truly build their legend and show off that growing legend to other players. For example, a player who logs over 200 hours playtime could receive an emblem for that. It would show other players how dedicated and hardcore he is and would make the player feel like his "legend" is growing. For those of us who reach lvl 30 before dlc dropped... How about a unique class item when the dlc goes live? It's not much but it's enough to seperate us from the Christmas "noobs". It alleviates the sting of allowing the new and casual payers to catch up because our efforts would still be recognized. For the crucible player... How about an emblem for a player who can maintain an average score of 4000-5000 for 10 matches? That player could show off their accomplishment without disrupting any balance. The Badge System Let's say it's too much to ask of Bungie to get their art team to design all of these new class items, ships, emblems, etc. A more simplistic fix would be the implementation of an in game badge or achievement system. Just like how you would receive playstation trophies or xbox achievements, Destiny could have an in game system where certain accomplishments would reward them unique badges. In the menus there could be another area for badge selection. Let's say there are three slots there. Players can select a slot and their "Badge Book" opens up. They can select up to three badges that they want to display. The badges would appear as symbols somewhere on their player emblem. This is a small thing but would allow guardians to better tell the stories of how they play. Being able to look at a player you match up with in a strike, pre-crucible match or even in the tower and say "wow that guy did this" would allow legends to truly be formed. I think this is a small thing and I don't pretend to know the best way to implement this but I truly think this is a step that could address many of the community's issues all at once. Sound off fellow guardians and let me know what you think!
