I am very new to gaming (modern gaming anyways). In the first 4-6 weeks of playing destiny I couldn't break 500 points in Crucible. I worked at it and eventually could top the charts... since reduced to middle ranking in IB.
Recently I thought I would expand my skills by learning to be a Sniper, but I don't get how to do it in Destiny.
1) I find that I settle into a spot and end up getting killed by someone with a euros regime or other high powered non-sniper gun... whats the point of a sniper rifle if the other guns have the same range without losing mobility or sight? Am I doing something wrong here? An example would be sniping by C facing B on Venus map (maat mons I think its called).
2) it seems like there are not many snipe points, so if I try to hunker down, I get maybe two kills until I am hunted down.
Tips? Tricks?

Edited by The Fallen Zyzz: 3/30/2015 1:20:40 AM1. Get into a good position. 2. Watch dem flags. 3. Point your crosshairs in the general direction of their head. 4. Shoot. 5. Pray for bullet magnetism to work with you. 6. Revel in your kill(s) and enjoy your win.
Serious tips? Don't always ADS. After every kill or chain of kills or every 10 seconds, take a few moments to observe your surroundings and check your motion sensor. That is how you avoid being hunted.
First of all... Know your surroundings. If someone catches you off guard and charges you with pretty much anything, odds are you are going to die. Practice quick firing in PvE. Drag scoping especially will help you get out of sticky situations. Practice zooming and dragging the recticle across your screen toward your enemy's head and fire when it lands. The faster you can accomplish this the better you will be. For long range, you can "hard scope" --aim until you have a target (especially in choke points and heavy traffic areas-- but you have to make sure you keep an eye on your surroundings. I usually just glimpse at my radar and if none of my teammates are around, I do a quick sweep of the ares around and behind me.

Practice your aim in PvE. However, also Skirmish with two friends can help you to hone your skill. We even used NLB and a sniper's rifle simultaneously: Dual Sniper in Skirmish [No Land Beyond and Praed…: https://youtu.be/MozTP36Lr-o

Edited by Brokenspade: 5/30/2015 10:59:40 AMPrydeth's revenge, the dead orbit sniper, P&t, Efreedit's Spear, ice breaker, black hammer, the ldr. Any of these. They have good (except maybe ice breaker) stability and high rof. Sniping is all about understanding "traffic lanes". I recommend you start with control because the lanes are more constant with people running to objectives. You need to find a place were you can see that lane and wait. Crouch and hold still to take yourself off the minimap. Don't stay scoped in. Your snipers red dot is a dead giveaway, your peripheral vision is hampered, and you'll get shotgunned in the back of the face... a lot. After you get a few kills move to a spot were you can see the snipers perch you just left. I get a lot of kills shooting people trying to rush my first roost and get fusion rifely vengeance. Learn to use advantageous perks. Hunter and or the p&t invisibility can boost your survivability a lot. Chain of woe is useful. Final round let's several snipers kill with a single body shot. Ap rounds can shoot thru walls. Etc. Lastly. Have a back-up primary that can work at multiple ranges of engagement. Hand cannons like hawkmoon, thorn, Timur's Lash. Or pulses like bad juju, red death, or over soul edict. Good luck fellow long gunner. May your inbox ever be filled with hate mail. Edit: The new "hidden hand" perk gives an insane boost to aim assist. If your having trouble getting head shots, this will make the perfect set of training wheels. New queens sniper also has a silly amount of baby bumper auto target for you new cross postal code killers. Second edit: The Capri sting's invisibility is very useful if you like to run gunslinger.

lol i always use sniper no matter what map. so the zoom is VERY important. never use a mid-zoom scope as its not very helpful. you want a short range for almost all maps, then on the couple big maps (ex. Shyshock) you want long zoom. you never camp and when getting into a fight win a handgun or another sniper you want to slowly move back and forth left and right. and maybe try to drag scope which means you aim then drag your lens over him and shoot immediately. just get a good sniper like the chosen or pradenths revenge.

So this doesn't get lost because it was a reply to a sarcastic comment... First thing you need to do is understand where the sniper lines are in the different maps. There are WAY too many for me to list them all, but here are a few to get you started: - C rock overlooking B on Shores of Time (the one you mentioned) - Either side of C cave on Shores of Time - Runway between A and B on Shores of Time - Window on the runway between A and B facing C cave window on Shores of Time - Either side of B on Firebase Delphi (don't snipe inside B, as you can easily get flanked from the top window) - Either window on the round concourse around B on Firebase Delphi - C Flag or other side of the building on Exodus Blue - C spawn looking into B on Exodus Blue The idea is simple: sniper lines occur where enemy movement would be restricted while allowing the sniper quick egress. At C cave on Shores of Time, enemies at the back end of the cave will have little room to move once they enter, but you, as the sniper, could easily escape if you miss your shot. Finally, and probably most importantly, is to keep moving. Snipers are most effective when they have the element of surprise. If you stand in the same spot all day, the other team is going to focus fire you down. The best way to snipe is to use sniper lines where your teammates are currently fighting the other team, as it allows you to assist and protect them as they rush.

Before my gaming day begins i always practice sniping in pve to get the hang of snapping to heads and dealing with moving targets. Even if it is just AI mobs it helps to get you settled for the day. this is also a good way to get used to my sniper. All of them play a little different so you gotta find the one you like and practice with it in pve then pvp. After i do that for a while i hop into pvp and play with my primary gun to begin and see how the other team is playing. What lanes do they like? Are they team oriented or solo oriented? Whos shotgun rushing etc. All of this information is key for survival. Then i get into sniping. Pick my spots, have grenades on hand and i need to know my escape routers as a good sniper never gets stuck in a corner and if we miss the most important shot we are open to fire or in some situations death. Learn to read the radar. If the sniper doesnt have radar while zoomes just quick zoom in and out to check radar. You also need to know the maps. You have to be creative and find the right sniping spots. Some maps have better high ground sniping some better lower ground sniping. In the end it all comes down to practice, map knowedge and skill. As you play you should eventually get used to the controls and how to aim, etc... Hopefully in the end you becomena pro! will be able to snipe on the move and kill players from behind. Take out sunsingers in a shot or bladedancers in one blow. Try to get your hands on patience and time or icebreaker(i have both as they both come in handy and handle differently) if you are serious about sniping and have fun over everything. Keep playing and keep practicing as a sniper, you will get better!

I'll just stick with my shotgun and throwing knives
-
Don't camp and snipe, use a decent close to mud range weapon and snipe when they are at a long distance

Dam u str8 babygurl

Never keep your scope zoomed in for more than 3 seconds if you are trying to predict where the enemy is going. Never have a higher sensitivity than 7-8 At long range only scope when needed (glare is a big giveaway) Practice reacting and moving the aim from the floor to the head of a PVE mob. If you are planning to stay some where for a long time. Then make sure you have team mates or obstacles in place. Bungie does NOT like snipers in my opinion. Every good seeming vantage point is blocked my some stupid pillar.

Snapshot works the best for me

Low zoom scope

Dude, roll a sniper with the ambush or tacsys scope and hidden hand. Then just shoot from a distance. I don't believe in revealing shot spots to people, find your own and explore the map. But I love sniping and always will. Combined arms is like my kingdom, there is where you'll find the real snipers! Watch some YouTube videos to. Very helpful to new players.

The maps are too small to snipe the way you can in other games. In Destiny you're looking for choke points and moving constantly.
-
You should find vantage points that have little room for enemy movement. Do not stay down sights keep a steady eye on your radar. Once you get a few kills in that spot MOVE ALONG. Sniping shouldn't be lazy, get some kills play the game with your primary until the right opportunities present themselves. I'd suggest starting off on control crucible. Good luck guardian.

Don't revenge snipe! it almost always backfires. I used to run in and try to snipe the guy who just sniped me, and it just gives him a free kill because I was stupid about it. Or I'll snipe the same person 3 times in a row because they basically walk right into my sights at that point of fury.
it works sometimes but you're better off NOT trying to prove that you're the better sniper, because they're probably still lined up
Tbh, I really don't know how I've racked up so many sniper kills (check my weapon stats.) I just follow one rule: Survive. (Efrideet's Spear and Praedyth's Revenge are my go to snipers.) If you know you're at a good position, go for it. Don't force battles that you know have a low chance on winning on (whether it be height advantage, a 2v1, low ammo, etc.) Just focus on landing the shot when you know you can.

Aim for the head

No land beyond for easy kills

Low zoom scopes are best for crucible

For me, I snipe on certain maps. On Pantheon, I equip my sniper because there are noticeable lanes in the map, and if you can control a lane with your sniper, it will really benefit your team. I just snipe on maps that are better for sniping. Maps like Cauldron or Anomaly have way too many paths and corners that I cannot control by myself with a sniper.

Edited by Robin: 6/5/2015 1:03:30 AMThe way I improved my sniping is by buying a little target that sticks to my monitor and quick scoping. Before everyone goes crazy, I'm not one of those COD guys. I did quickscope, but it helped me lock on to the head quickly, which helps for all sniping. I now never leave my longbow behind.

Use two snipers at once :)

Step one: obtain efrideets Step two: final round.
