I feel sometimes when I talk to religious people they have all a lot of similar questions about why there almost certainly can be no god, or questions about things they feel cannot properly be explained using science and that confuse them , 'like something for nothing to explain the big bang', 'moral values' and evolution ect
Can explain mostly anything in a brief easy to understand way , I am not here to be patronising / troll like , and certainly not on some sort of 'join us' mission , I just feel science is very expecting of most people to just accept many theory's that seem totally illogical at first glance..? :-)

I'm just here for the comments.

I'm an English major and I want to minor in one of the sciences. Should I pick human anthropology or astrophysics? Both interest me greatly from a philosophical perspective--the former because it's the story of us, the latter because it's the story of the universe. Plus, I like having a knowledge of one of the sciences so that in my writing as an English major, I can extrapolate it into sci-fi for fictional entertainment purposes.

Is the Cambrian Explosion Problem Solved? I'm not baiting you. Just curious.

Please don't associate atheism with science. The two are irrelevant.

Edited by Stop: 12/8/2014 6:33:29 PMNo, you can't explain everything with science. The chance of spontaneous creation of life is nearly impossible. Also, the advanced (top end) astrophysics is partially related with religious theories. P.s. I am a biochem major student.

so you are the god of your life and already know everything

As Daz said, don't associate science with atheism. It's just asking to get shot down by theists. Also, is English your first language? Or is something wrong with your formatting?

What science are you majoring in?

Even with all the "science" we claim to know so much about, our knowledge of this universe is as insignificant as dipping a red solo cup into the ocean. The water you hold is what you know, and all the water remaining holds the truth to all the mysteries we will never know. Science has a new "breakthrough" every decade, and theories are disproven as quickly as they are formed. They are theories because they can't be proven. So your faith in a theory is much like someone else faith in their religion.

Edited by Doctor Cox: 12/8/2014 4:35:05 PMYou can't definitively prove a God does or does not exist, not with our current technology or understanding of science. Let people believe in whatever they choose so long as they don't force their opinions on others. I can't comprehend why both atheists and the faithful are such jackasses about this. There's no reason for it.

do you think the universe is open or closed :-)
-
What field of science? I'm looking to study either biology or chemistry in university.
-
Do you have an issue with the universe simply existing and not being created? As in the matter and energy condensed into the singularity point before the Big Bang never being created.
I am an atheist as well btw
Do you think atheism is its own religion?

What this tells me is that science is a satirical tool that can deceive the whole world if the wrong intel is collected or revealed. Bc if it begins to work, science will claim to have a foundation from which it immediately builds it's conclusion to appease those ambitious, "eager to know all see all be all" scientists that are ready to hold hands on any concept or theory that could directly thwart any creationist theory. The other problem with science is that it's responsive. Until it's proven wrong, it's right until we get all the components perfect. Science has a humility problem. Scientists have humility problems. It's ironic to me that we look to the past for answers, but scientists hide the things from the past they don't want people using to strengthen their beliefs, and most advocates would declare it hoaxoeous or simply dismiss it and go back to arguing how theories disprove god. I'm at odds with "science" and those who use science as a weapon in the psychological war we fight. I'm sure you've heard many times before, but math is the language of the universe, so would you stop thinking your science book has ANY, especially ALL the relevant answers to the mystery of life. The origin is relevant, but how relevant? How many people walk around worried about our ancestors? How many worry about being able to evolve to the next species? It's not even in the minds of people. It's an idle conclusion that awaits further details, and without instruction, I don't think the human race is moving anywhere. I have no questions bc my faith is presently occupied elsewhere, I just felt this was a good thread to rant on. God bless.

Ok, I've got a legit question now. What contributions has science made that affects our daily lives that is not in the form or comes from capitalism?

How do you convert antimatter to normal matter? :3 How can you create an electrical current that goes through the vertebrae without damaging the nervous system? How do prions convert normal protiens? How much Kilocalories are in one pecan pie sold in Kroger? Where is the Illuminati?

Not to argue for religion as I am a deist so I have no preference for any given one. But going from the most recent evidence and theories on M-theory would you accept that if proven true it would entail that there is a universe where the Christian god is real. Though accepting that would also mean accepting one where it isn't one where batman is real superman and every other possible variety of universe.
