Fully Upgraded Thorn: PvP
Any Guardians out there have experience with an upgraded Thorn in PvP? It's a cool gun but the reload is slow with a small clip. Does the poison DoT wreak havoc like I think it would?
I went 22 and 3 in a control match last night and it left me with hope for the gun.
What are people's experiences with using the gun in PvP?

I play a sunbro warlock with increased burn time as well as increased burn damage... So the poison damage and the burn damage coupled together should be pretty sick, right?!

I use Thorn on my titan and I am generally first on the scoreboard. I compensate the slow reload with some gloves that improve reload speed and also play from a distance. I love the gun and generally do worse if I switch it out. If they buff it, I actually think it could be OP.

I didn't enjoy that reload time at all using the thorn on my titan, but I switched it over to my gunslinger, haven't regretted a second of it. Absolutely in love with it in PvP and pve, and I agree with what another person said, doesn't need that much of a buff but when it does I think people might forget all about their fatebringers

I tried using it one day because I was bored, and I instantly fell in love. Never used a Hand Cannon before, pretty much all I used previously was a Suros, but the Thorn is nasty. Kills in 2 headshots or 3 body shots with the poison effect. Right now it's definitely one of the better Exotics for PvP. It really doesn't need the buff, but I'll gladly take it whenever they get around to doing buffs.

Some good matches with it. The dot dose 7 damage per tic. It is a 2 head shot kill maxed out. I have killed 3 people with one reload and it felt amazing. Have also gotten double kills with the piercing rounds.

I've had some of my best PvP matches with Thorn. 2 headshot kill guaranteed. I use the stability mods on smaller maps and send it on larger ones. I also soloed this weeks nightfall switching between thorn and icebreaker. If it gets buffed it is going to be an absolute monster.

My hunter uses it for pvp and pve tried letting my hunter use my hawkmoon and it just felt wrong

Edited by miusoka: 11/9/2014 10:44:49 PMIt's a really good gun for pvp. The dot prevents the shield from regenerating for a short time. The reload is one of the slowest out of all hand cannons. The sights are one of the best. I stopped using mine only cause it took up a exotic spot for my pocket infinity. Which melts people in pvp.

Can 3 shot guardians. It's a true contender in the crucible and i really enjoy it

Ive gotten so used to its recoil that i cant use any other hand cannon for pvp anymore. I love it.

I don't just rely on DoT. I also have a good aim. The guns recoil takes some getting used to but after that it's a devastating gun. Oh and don't use the Balance perk, use the Send It perk instead and just form your shots around the recoil. The gun is more effective that way.

I have a fully upgraded Thorn, and it sounds fun to use, but I mainly go for Hawkmoon. When using Hawkmoon whenever I hear the little Ptew Ptew sound of a Thorn user I know it will be an easy game. The big ol crack boom of Hawkmoon just rips them apart as they peek out to try and get the DoT going..

The one thing I never see in these threads is about how you can track your opponent while the dot is ticking. This is an amazing unnoted perk! Ping them and when they run behind terrain or through a door you can watch where they go for a solid 4 seconds.

All my past games are with thorn, even destroyed a game 1v3 with it leaving the guys under 1000. Its underrated for sure

5 RepliesIf Thorn had a little bit more impact,it would be much better,right now (fully upgraded) it takes 3 body-shots to kill anyone,but what kills your enemy is the damage over time,which gives your enemy enough time to kill you...

1 ReplyIt's great with the DOT, I was getting killed by it about 2 games before I unlocked the DOT, it's annoying as hell getting hit with it so I liked it when I unlocked it :)

As far as any tips, I prefer to keep the stability perk and find some armor that increases HC reload speed. On a last note, if possible buy a pack of HC telemetry from Xür (one strange coin buys 5 of them, what a bargain!).

2 RepliesPvP Thorn is most likely the best post mortem gun in the game, ( if doing the bounty) you hit them low enough and if they kill you or run away, the lingering damage will take them out no problem,

1 ReplyUsed it in pvp free for all and had a 4.5 k/d. Fully upgraded though. I like handcannons in pvp personally but the reload is harsh. Once you get used to it you know when to house and let the poison kill them.

Thorn is good in pvp for me ((handcannon vet)). But its reload gives the majority of problems. You can take out 2 with a full clip, but that reload time will get you killed by a third man...

9 Repliesas a person with a fully upgraded thorn i must say ive never been better in pvp just shoot them a few times take cover to heal and there dead or if they go behind a wall u can still see the numbers coming off them so u can track them and see if there going to counter attack.

It's great in PvP. I prefer using my The Devil You Know though.
