For all those who care about Destiny

First off, I would like to ask everyone to read this. I feel like this post has a lot of truth in it. Maybe there are a select few of players like me on these forums or maybe there are quite a few like me that just haven’t voiced their opinions on the game, but I seem to be completely torn on this game. I love it and I hate it. I love several things about it, and I hate several things about it. Please realize that I am not posting this to whole-heartedly complain, I just want to put what I feel like all of us in the community want out of Destiny, and what we thought we were getting out of Destiny pre-launch, in an articulate, mature manner. First off, there are several things I love about this game. One, I love the community aspect of it. The fact you can be by yourself wandering around, patrolling, and a public event occurs, and then all of sudden there are several guardians there by your side, helping out in the fight. I think that’s really cool and was one of the reasons why I first bought into Destiny in the first place when the game was getting so much hype pre-launch. But probably the thing I love(d) most about Destiny, is/was its potential. I was one of those guys who was reading every little thing I could about Destiny pre-launch, trying to learn everything I could about Destiny because I was so enamored by its story and all of its possibilities. Heck, I even went out and bought a ps4 a few months before launch because I read that having it on the ps4 would impact its gameplay in a positive way, because of its next-gen capabilities. To add to that, I went out and bought a TV so my roommate and I could both play Destiny at the same time in our dorm room. To get back on track, the potential for this game is still amazing. I think we can all agree that there is a lack of content. I don’t want to harp on that. I have watched the videos on youtube where Batman goes through all the things that point to the fact that Bungie scammed us out of full game when they released Destiny in September. There is no arguing that there are portions of the map that because can access in the base game due to glitches. Whether these were cut out pre-launch due to Bungie and Activision trying to milk money out of us or because the team didn’t feel they were complete enough to have on the game when it was launched is a question we may never have answered. But what I would like to know is what happened to the game were being shown all during the pre-launch phase. Which leads me to why this game irks me… The game I had imagined Destiny to be…the game that was hyped up for us for months because it was released in September is simply not the game we were given. To me, it feels like there is this great framework to the game. There is so much that it could have been. Again, so much potential. But what was missing was the “guts” to go along with that framework. Again, the story is lacking, and not only that, they little story that we have, is very repetitive. There has to be something they could have come up with that would be different that us Guardians holding off waves of the Darkness while or Ghost tries to unlock a door. This is a classic design in games, and I actually enjoy this type of mission, every once in a while. But it seems like a majority of the missions requires you to do this same wave defense over and over again. Now, I was someone who didn’t have much experience with Bungie before this game. I have always been a PS user and never really played Halo aside from playing it at a friend’s house. But, from what I had heard about this company is that they were heralded and had a lot of respect in the gaming community. So, naturally, I thought they would deliver on their promise of giving us such a fantastic game. They COULD have, but they DID NOT. Whether that is Bungie’s fault of Activision’s fault, or both, we will probably never know, BUT for now, it is safe to rest the blame on them both. I had thought this game was going to rank up there as one of the greatest games of all-time, honestly. Although it is no where near that at this point in time, I still believe there is enough time for Bungie to make up for their mistakes and fix this game, and I truly hope this happens. There is nothing more fascinating to us humans than saving the human race. I would love to keep this thread civil. I feel like the more civil comments we get the more we will get noticed and taking seriously. I know there is a lot of anger built up about this game and all that it lacks, but please post your comments and what not in an appropriate manner. I still am in love with what this game could be, as I’m sure many of you all are, too. So please, if you like this post bump it/add your own comments about this situation. I’m sure the whole community is interested to some degree, and hopefully if we get enough comments, we can get some attention, and hopefully some action…….

  • the lack of storyline is basically why i stopped playing, don't get me wrong I love the gameplay so much it is 10/10 but the repetitiveness in missions and hundreds more questions than answers left me with a 5/10 satisfaction of the game I do hope that a lot of threads like these get looked at and they change it up in upcoming DLCs.

  • if destiny was an open world, with trading and gambling like promised it would be an exceptional game. yes there would be rwt but lets be honest, who gives a crap how anybody got anything... at the end of the day they got it. instead the only thing that shines on destiny is the gun play which is exceptional, apart from that the game sucks if we're honest with ourselves.

I certainly agree with your sentiments. I love playing this game. I am actually addicted to it. It is the only game I have ever seen that makes the movements of other players look realistic when compared to the AI creatures. The story is the most obvious issue, I think, but as you said, the framework is there. The issues repeatedly raised on these forums (or at least some of the issues) are being addressed, which is excellent and gives me hope for the future of the game. The next biggest issue for me is the game worlds. There is so much that you can see. From a distance. I would love to be able to explore more of the various worlds. It particularly struck me when I was looking at venus from the endless steps, and I could see ruins, settlements, and the possibilities they held. Even if each area had to be loaded separetely, it would still be a fantastic improvement. In reference to your spaceship battles idea, perhaps there should be an 'explore the skies' aspect where you use your ship to fly high above the environment and search for new places to go, while encountering enemy ships. You could have public events like "Prevent the Ketch from deploying ground troops," for example. You could have to upgrade your ship just like your character, with weapons, armour/shields, maybe better engines. Also, I would suggest more uses for Ghost. Perhaps he could have a scan ability that temporarily highlights items of interest, like resources or distant enemy locations. I'd also like binoculars, or something similar. I don't like having to use a sniper scope every time I want to look at something far away. Perhaps you could have him call your ship to provide temporary air support or trans-mat items you don't need that are filling up your inventory so you can stay on-planet for longer. (Sorry, started to ramble there)

      • Bungie says, "Just shell out the extra 35 dollars so you spend 95 dollars total to get the game we originally would have released, but decided we could milk you a little bit more." Unless you're on Xbox. Then it's, "Oh, and we aren't even going to give you the same content for the same money." Thanks. Yeah, I know Sony paid for exclusives. Funny, though. I paid for Destiny. I'm not Sony and I'm not Xbox. I'm just a gamer that wants the same content as any other gamer. I want to drink from the same water fountain and ride the same bus with other gamers. I don't want to be forced to attend a school on the other side of town because of the color of my Xbox. I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in in history as the greatest demonstration in the history of gaming. In a sense we've come to the forum to cash a check. When the architects of our game wrote the magnificent programming, they were signing a promissory note to which every gamer was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all gamers would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of equal content. It is obvious today that Bungie has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, Bungie has given gamers a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity and promise of this great company. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and equality. We have also come to this hallowed forum to remind gamers of the fierce of urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism and complacency. Now is the time to make real the promises. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of console segregation to the sunlit path of gamer unity. Now is the time to lift our gamer nation from the quicksands injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of the Traveler's children. It would be fatal for the gaming nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering autumn of the gamers' legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating spring of freedom and equality. Two-thousand fourteen is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the gamer needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the children of the Traveler returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in the Tower until the gamer is granted his rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our community until the bright day of justice emerges. But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of verbal, articulate force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the gaming community must not lead us to a distrust of the other factions within the gaming community, for many of our gaming brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone. And, as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. And even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Gamer's dream. I have a dream that one day this community will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all gamers are created equal."

          • Bump. I think it would really improve the longevity of the game if they added several more strikes to bring up the number to around 10, and maybe a couple more raids. Story aside, that would really improve the endgame play, since the existing strikes and raid are getting repetitive.

I will agree 100% playing beta and how it felt I figured the game would have so much more to offer especially with how much money was spent making the game. Instead of large paragraphs I will list the largest issues I feel this game has and needs to be addressed. Story Mode: This game needs to have an Epic story line and it was anything but that so far average is what I would say. There is still so much to be told and I hope you (Bungie) can fix this. The game needs suspense, mystery, A feel that you do not know what happens and when it does you say wow I didn't see that coming or omg that was sick. I would love to see some battle cut scenes, flash backs from battles the Strangler has been in or how the Dark took over when there was Light. Instead of all the BS talking why do you not include much of the lore from the grimoire cards? End Content: Destiny feels very much like WoW did the first 6 months of the game where you hit a brick wall at molten core and people had to farm blues until you had 40 people able to go in and even at that point you had to farm trash molten giants for epics in order to gear up to even fight the first boss. I feel If VoG had the secrets everyone is searching for with a hidden boss and more chests with out all the bugs in the raid it would have been alot better. The fact is people cheesed their way through VoG hard with everyone and their mom and hit 29 and 30 with most raid guns very fast. Not knocking cheese I do it as you are putting yourself at a disadvantage if you do not, but I do blame Bungie for their lack of beta testing their raid enough. I would love to see a Strike where the final boss is not an enemy but 3 Guardians vs another 3 Guardians who are also at the end of the strike with some kind of cool mission or event for them to compete against each other for the victory( of course the loser still gets something just not what the winners get) I always wanted this in WoW alliance vs Horde final boss battle, never happened. Art work: The ships and speeder art work is just so repetitive, how can you not have an artist that makes more then 1 speeder look and like 4 ships? You need more random weather effects in game areas, more rain and storms, snow falling, season changes to the environment. PvP: Where is the practice mode, this is my largest issue with this games pvp. I can not pick a map and play with friends with the teams we want just for fun or practice. Add some options to practice mode also like no supers or grenades, or even nothing but primary weapons. A match making mode similar to Dota 2's would be great, and a thumbs up and thumbs down for maps you can not stand (Bastion and First Light) Broadcast system: I have many close friends I talk to all the time but also so many people I have randomly played with on my friends list. I would like a way to broadcast a message to them all the same way PSN does when in game. "Need 1 more for VoG hard" "at end of Nightfall with 2 anyone can join for free finish" "4 in PvP 2 open spots". Why not give this option to your ghost, pull him up and select announce to Guardians? Random: Ghost shells need to be put in for all dead ghosts you find, not hard you have all the shaders for gear just use them. Speeder racing would be great fun

              • I agree that Destiny is a great framework but needs guts. I never followed the mass hysteria before launch. In fact, I'd only heard about the game in passing. So when I first played it, I was like 'this is awesome'. But after a while, I realised that the game has so much potential and room for improvement. I'm still a massive fan, but would love to see some guts. This is my personal wish list made up of 15 improvements and ideas for future DLC and updates in Destiny: 1. A richer story 2. An inbuilt lore codex (or a lore master at the tower) 3. Greater variety all round (more strikes, more levels, greater mission variety, more PvP maps, different types of patrol, more customisation options, shaders) 4. Matchmaking for raids and weekly strikes (not everyone has an army of geeks to call upon in their hour of need) 5. Some form of opt in voice chat at the tower, on patrol, and in strikes (bla, bla, bla) 6. A button to switch quickly between your subclass 7. Colourful ships (poopy brown is not cool) 8. New planets with new missions (Saturn, Mercury) 9. Improved enemy AI (oh look, they all come out of that hole in the wall ... every time) 10. Sparrow racing and customisation (like podracing) 11. Space travel and battles (Star Wars Style) 12. A third subclass with new powers 13. Trading (pure and simple) 14. More materials spawning on each planet (or private farms) 15. Guilds and guildhalls (for friends to band together) 'It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves' (Shakespeare)

                • If you want to sell a franchise like this, it isn't difficult. They should have spent more time (and budget) developing the game and less on all the hype that was thrown at us. Good games will sell. Bungie didn't need Activision, but they knew they needed a definite profit to continue the project. In my opinion, they were way too conservative in implementing their innovative ideas. This reminds me of all the recently hyped games that sold but didn't deliver. (Titan Fall, Halo 4, Dark Souls 2, etc.) Im wondering if this if our expectations are too high or we are done with ground-breaking new games, regardless, i shake my head in dismay.

This game still has so much potential but it is in my opinion balanced on the edge of a precipice. I still think that this can be one of the best games ever.... I'll leave it there.

                  • I am personally convinced because the transition from last gen to this generation of consoles has been a lot lot slower than predicted it has forced a lot of publishers and developers to continue to build games for the last gen. The problem with this of course is the last gen consoles cannot handle much and therefore games have been cut or delayed , both or changed as soon as the transition is 100% in favour of this new gen consoles I think the game drops will be 100% better. The main upside of pc gaming is that. You can upgrade a few things and be a ton more powerful, so game creators are not slowed down however consoles again come into play which slows down pc developers in tun ofc ideally they work on all. It's a staling tactic to wait for the PS3 x360 sales to fall to indicTe the transition ( game sales I mean)

The only one, Atheon, has given a couple of repeated weapons. This is awful. Terribly disgusting. I start thinking bungie has frozen the drop due to the first expansion. I do not enjoy playing this game.

I feel the same, I imagined an endless amount of things to do in this game. Either way I still play and I think Bungie will compensate for the lack of content. The only thing that's 100% certain is that it will take time.
