America isn't a Democracy.

Or a Republic if you want to spin it that way. It's an oligarchy. The rich, the connected, and political powerful have gamed the system so that not only are they are earning more, but their opinions are made into policy, not yours. Your vote is worthless when your elected representatives won't even listen to you and the votes of the stupid, ignorant, uninformed sheep can be bought and dissenters drowned with enough political attack ads.

    • Pretty much. We can still have a say but it's alot harder than it should be in a "representative democracy"

    • It's not the upper classes' fault--in fact, they're the intelligent ones who are making use of their right. It's our own fault. Quite frankly, the biggest problem with American politics isn't the parties, the upper classes, or even the government--rather, it's American laziness. Most Americans treat their politics like they do their religion: a one-time thing and then boom you're done. They think that they only have to vote once every 4 years and then everything will work out. It doesn't work that way. If we want true change and a true voice then we need to actively be involved and not be afraid to think outside the two party dichotomy. The upper classes and the like are influencing things because they are the only ones actually getting involved and thus we're allowing them to by not getting involved ourselves, being passive and lazy, and being sheep to clever marketing. The only thing that can save us is for Americans to wake up and actually get involved. We have this great privilege of a republic and we don't even use it.

    • It's really easy to blame the class seperation as "OMG THE UPPERCLASS IS 2 OP" but in reality they're not, we'll at least not to the extent that you're making it out to be. There's dozens of other vairables that play a role in the rich staying rich and powerful but not to the point where the lower and middle class have no power. Things like voter apathy have a tremendous effect on the misrepresentation of classes in politics. tl;dr. Politics is immensely complicated and can't just be summed up in basic terms.

      • Well if we weren't a bunch of uninformed idiots who believe ever political talking point that gets spewed our way, we might have a better chance. People bitch about career politicians and then go vote for "their guy" who been in congress for the passed 30 yrs. All the while the masses are dumbed down on every front.
