The Unnessecity of Exotic Primary Weapons

I`m most likely not the first or only one who noticed, but legendary raid weapons render exotic primary weapons completely and utterly usless in PVE. I mean who wants to miss out on an added dmg type like arc or void or solar in favor of stuffing an exotic primary with endless XP for the same result as you can have in a fraction of time with a legendary... ofcourse if you take the time you will still be missing that special dmg type. So in a nutshell exotic primary weapons are just a nice piece of jewlery that gets outdone by a legendary (with the Vex Mythoclast as the exception)... but I mean come on. As in many places with Destiny theres a severe lack of customization. But why not change that? It wouldnt be difficult to add dmg type modules to Xurs inventory... like the sparrow upgrades. Let me buy a void dmg module to buff The Last Word with... or arc dmg for Hard Light. For all I care make it cost 50 strange coins, but it would be nice to have this, or a simliar option.

    • I primarily play a blade-dancer with Red Death as my primary, and because of that combination i can solo the weekly challenge strikes up to level 26. The Combination of Hungering Blade / Fast Twitch with the Red Death's healing power makes me very difficult to kill since everything i kill with my melee or my gun heals me completely. Also i use the Universal remote with the Final Boss so i can be either right in your face or half a world away when i kill things, which gives me amazing versatility in any strike and in the crucible. So no i would say exotic primaries are quite useful even if they take twice as long to max out.

        • Idk the read death is pretty handy when you get in tough situations with massive mobs! Healing every time with every kill is absolutely amazing to me

        • I use thorn because it's the only gun with a DoT! Other than that I use epilogue

        • The Exotic Hard Mode reward for Crota's End is Nechrochasm, an AR styled like Thorn and with similar stats to Hard Ligh(20 impact/80 ROF) but deals Arc damage. They're not going to undermine themselves by adding unique traits to weapons with stats balanced and designed over hours and hours of testing.

        • I like exotic primaries in non raid PvE activities for the fun and nonrepetativness of using my raid primaries. But yes Raid Primaries > Exotic Primaries. Plus you can have it and have an Exotic of something else while if you use Exotic Primary you can't use a Exotic sniper or HMG or rocket you have instead.

        • I do not support adding damage types to weapons from xur. Use a special/heavy to break shields then switch to your primary

        • Watch the videos from E3 last year. Guns were fully customizable, you could even swap weapon sights between other guns. Exotics were bad ass before the retail release, Thunderlords capstone upgrade was called Rolling Thunder, "Burn through your enemies with thunderous rounds that will both penetrate and detonate." Tons of features/content/story was most likely removed to gear the game to a younger audience and to have parity with Xbox 360/PS3 platforms. Destiny is still fun in its unfinished state, but we will see if a crappy RNG loot system without trading can keep people around once games like Bayonetta 2, Sunset Overdrive and Dragon Age hit :)

          • That's how Bungie wanted, stats wise there isn't really much difference between exotic weapons and legendary. The main value in exotic weapons are their skill trees or perks, then of course there is the bragging rights associated with owning an exotic. Of course, the Legendary weapons found in the Raid kind of unbalance this system since many of them seem to out perform their exotic counterparts. Maybe all Raid weapons should be upgraded to exotic status.

              I agree. Exotics primaries are as good as blue weapons. I'll use my raid primaries with elemental damage over the "exotic primaries" that only have kentic. They are 100 percent useless in nightfall.

              Vex mythoclast This is the only exotics that are worthy of a primary slot. Can you tell why? Because it does elemental damage. Why would anyone NOT want to carry a gun which does elemental damage? You then can carry all 3 types of damage for handling pretty much any strike or nightfall.

            • I agree but for a diff reason. I'm finding that I just can't dig having exotic weapons in my loadout, it comes down to that bs one exotic rule I usually run with lord fixer/icebreaker/zombie apoc and having to take a moment to switch out for gjallahorn is just sucky. now imagine throwing in an exotic primary and the juggle would really suck.

                • aye that would be a nice feature or failing that if its too much work for bungie just give all exotics a special damage type since an exotic should be the best hands down but which 1 exotic do you equip? rather than being able to debate whether your legendary is better than your exotic

                  • Universal Remote... the most useless weapon until you get to its actual range and damage perk. The range on it by default is asinine and makes it pointless to attempt leveling outside of when turning in bounties. Suros is decent as a primary, but many of the others just don't compare to /normal/ legendary and raid weapons. I was using the X.dkfngdfjh scout from the vanguard vendor due to AP and Firefly until I got vision of confluence and now it's stats are on par with Suros... I half agree and disagree... to me exotic weapons need a buff in PVE and should just be removed from PVP... since they don't do more damage really, and aren't as good as other obtainable weapons. The only real OP exotics are heavies... Gallahorn is absurdly OP in PVP.

                      • [b]Love the idea[/b]...but not gonna lie, was completely against everything you had said till the end when you introduced the concept of augmenting exotics, if not weapons period, with solar/arc/void telemetry which is a sincerely incredible idea... Honestly i'm not sure if you were using the title as click bait or not, but the title is utterly misrepresenting a purty incredible idea... And until you amend the titles and OP a bit, nobody will ever understand the point/idea that your attempting to get across which is the weapon telemetry idea...
