Weapons: Swords in Destiny
Let me know what you think!
I just played the Sword of Crota mission on the moon, and you get to use this cool dark sword in the mission to fend off your enemies (if you choose), which got me thinking...
Destiny needs a sword as a weapon!
Here are my reasons:
1. A sword would be INVALUABLE while fighting swarms such as thralls which come by the tens.
2. It would be a great close combat weapon.
3. It would be hecka sick!! (Aesthetically and in general)
I know you might be thinking:
Destiny is an FPS, it doesn't need swords and why would you ever want to bring a sword to a gun fight?
Well, I am not suggesting a whole new category is created. Just a new weapon. You should be able to access swords in your special weapon category. And hey Halo was an FPS, and they had one sword. These are the same writers, why not put a sword in the game?
And while I'm not suggesting them to bring back energy swords, I still believe an exotic metal sword is plenty relevant in this game. Look at Vandals. They use swords. Also there's a whole mission centered around a sword so I don't think this is way out of reach.

It would be a good weapon in the Heavy slot in my opinion. They'd have to give it charge mechanics like Halo's energy sword for PvP balance though. Either way, it'd be sick to have a sword on your back.

I loved that mission probably the BEST moment in the game period, I just hope we have more...human looking designs. Also wanted to point out we might actually have swords later down the road that are extremely rare loot, I heard before the game was even out that we MAY be having a completely separate class of Melee weapons which are suppose to include- SWORDS, Knife, Axes, Clubs and Staffs.

With that mission and blade dancer they already have most of the motions and mechanics worked out. Would be super cool. It was originally a fantasy game when it was conceived, i bet the add it in. Its such a big change they would have wait till the honeymoon is over to add it as DLC or something

Yes the sword was cool but destiny is not a mid evil game.

4 RepliesHonestly they should just make an entire new class of weapons for PvE (to replace a special weapon) for swords. I honestly wouldn't be content with just one sword. There needs to be variety in aesthetics and stats (i.e speed, attack, defense).

This may lead into future implementations of swords in the game. I think it would be a great addition. My guess would be the balancing issues with the swords. Making sure they're not too op in both pve and pvp. But I wouldn't be surprised if we see them in the future!
