• Any more than 3 people in a chat got annoying. I've only had 3 people mic'd in pvp and it was comfy but not overwhelming. Had 6+ in the tower and it was had to talk to anyone.

  • I would be against forcing proximity chat the same as I am against forcing only fireteam chat no single chat is best for everyone as you said you only want to be able to talk with your fireteam so that you can clearly understand them i feel this way too most of the time but other times I would like to be able to just walk past someone "ey up need a hand?"

  • There was chat support. It was Fireteam only. The 'missing' open/proximity chat should've been in the Tower and it wasn't. Everywhere else was mission oriented and there's no reason why people doing missions should have to hear everyone else by default. If anything; the way it was during the beta(Fireteam only) should be the default setting and people could customize from there. The way it was set up was such that the player could talk to the people they were playing with while not being forced to hear everyone then fumble through muting individual, or all of the other, players.

  • exactly spot on neither options are perfect as somedays you may like talking to randomers and others you may want to just play with your friends but having the option to switch depending on our mood makes the almost perfect system =D

The shortcut to this is interact menu and add to fire team. You wave at someone and wait for them to approach. Invite to fire team and chat it up. Auto fire team for public events and pvp would be nice additions. Maybe auto-fire team accept/decline on wave for wave, or sit down in a group. All with options of course maximum Ft count 2-16, minimum range 1ft-6ft, on/off etc control for the people that want it opt out for the people who don't.

  • I think inviting someone to your team should come after talking to them and not before be able to keep our fireteams more classy instead of our fireteams being easy and lets anyone in

  • I really liked it the way it was set up but I'm also becoming more understanding of the people that say it wasn't there. I think the open proximity chat people are saying they want should've been in Tower for sure. I am also thinking an option to opt in to an impromptu team chat for public events would be a good idea as well. Like a "Public Event Chat: On/Off" in the settings that would be independent from the Fireteam settings. That way, if people log on with their team they can retain the 'Fireteam only chat' before and after the Public Event while opting in to allow the random 'helpers' to be able to communicate with the other linked guardians during the event. But, I could see that becoming the problem Bungie was hoping to prevent by not having a public chat; the Fireteam members in the Public Event may be dickish to the randoms and therefore ruining the experience for those players. Or the randoms could do the same to the Fireteam. I don't really see that happening with this slice of the gaming community(people active on these forums) but we, here, are not all the people that will be playing Destiny. We might not even be half of the people that will be playing.

  •
I really liked it the way it was set
yeah it was really good and half of a perfect system apparently they cut proximity chat because of the fear of trolls but as long as you can either mute them or switch back to fireteam only it should be fine and no worse than halo its not even just public events you bump into a random guardian in a tough fight "need a hand?" or your fireteam bumps into another fireteam at start of a strike an gets talking "fancy teaming up for a raid?" it would be handy in lots of circumstances just as fireteam only chat would be so why not have both and let personal preference decide?

  • It won't. I think most people would be fine with this. Why does everyone seem to be looking for a fight recently?

  • without going into detail since this isnt the thread for it a lot of people on here are against an optional feature being added that some people want and has no effect on the gameplay....... its like hearing the xbox always online supporters again

  • You do have a very good point, with so much focus on co-op, it makes no sense to not have a strong chat support system, but I know people in the Tower will want to get together to form a team to complete raids, missions, or just plain mess around. It's how Bungie designs it's games, honestly I met most of my friends on my friends list by playing Halo 3's Custom Games, people just got along so quickly in that game. I'm sure the Destiny game will just bring gamers closer together rather than farther apart like other games do when they focus on multiplayer. I'm really pumped for this game and I'm counting the days until this releases I sure do hope I get to meet some awesome players in the Tower and I'm sure I will.

^ This is true. Although I was one of the people in two minds about the online DRM support for the xbox one. On one hand it had big potential to open up a digital trading market which would have forced prices down for games everywhere in the long run since digital purchases are only so highly priced due to the fact they have to be "fair" with brick and mortar stores which net hundreds of millions in profits a year. On the other hand though, their biggest mistake was planning on placing the same DRM limitations on physical copies of games which caused the outrage for people with spotty internet, or with limited access to connections. Should have been digital purchases sync online once every few days online to ensure you still own the game, and giving you the ability to trade digital purchases. Physical copies shouldn't have ever needed an online connection, and just worked like physical copies of console games have for years. That would have been perfect.

  • I really haven't heard of anyone opposing the idea of channels. In fact this is the third or fourth thread I have seen supporting it, and I haven't ready many if any comments saying it is a bad idea. Now if this were about Raid MM, or Splitscreen, that would be a different story.

  • ye i think I've seen more posts about people being surprised its not in the game than those against chat aye that's a surprisingly controversial topic which i've talked about tons on other post so I'd rather not become a broke record on every post lol
