Newsweek released a special Destiny Collector's Edition with a built in 60 page strategy guide from the POV of the various creators of Destiny in Bungie. You get to see the layout of 15 different creator's guardians and why they liked various load-outs on armors, and such. The whole magazine was awesome, and definitely worth picking up. But the most interesting section was where David 'Deej' Dague said, and I quote:
"We'll have the most hard-core members of our community racing each other to complete this thing first. We will be watching and keeping score. And we'll erect monuments to the people who are able to complete this thing first. We will observe them, and we will make sure they inherit the legend that they so richly deserve." --excerpt from the bottom of page 115 of the Newsweek special.
Edit: A few showed interest in getting the magazine and was wondering where you could get it. It should be at any major book store outlet, and can be purchased online from Amazon as well. Here is a link to it for anyone interested:

This is definitely cool. No way in hell I'm going to be part of the first team to do it, but still good to know Bungie is going to do interesting interactive things like this!
-
Yeah, but remember that, "If you can see it, you can go there!" comment... So I'm thinking the translation of, "we'll erect monuments to the people who are able to complete this thing first", to "We're gonna put a cool tiny tablet in an obscure location on the tower that has their gamertag names inscribed on it..." Haha, okay, so that's kinda pessimistic, but lets just say I'll believe it when I see it.
-
The team that does that will be known as almighty godly super saiyans and everyone will worship their genitals like god himself
-
Damn we have the team to do it but the fact that some people will have a day on all of us will make this hard to accomplish!
-
Do you all have reliable fiends to complete raids with? 5 other players that are ready to dedicate SEVERAL HOURS to a common goal? This is why there is no matchmaking. What a horrible experience to be matched with 5 other randoms just to get half way through, and discover that xXYourMomsAMan420Xx has to bail because his girlfriend's dog died?!! Yea right! That's why we created ThatWizardCameFromTheMoon.com - People who are serious about finding others, and be part of a community where you are held accountable. When you venture into a raid with 5 other players there's one common goal, many possible outcomes. Does your console friend list stack up? We are growing, and with Destiny just 2 weeks away, we think what we've done will take some of the frustration out of finding a group to play with. Our hopes are that you will find friends on our site to play with before you even log in for the first time. It's like eHarmony meets facebook for Destiny. We invite you will come check us out. You can use the site (search for other players) without an account. Which is fine, but we hope you will create an account with us. We have a ton of stuff planned and we hope you'll decide to stay. Creating an account is free and only needed if you want to post in the forums and comment on stories. Thanks!

Cool, doesn't affect me since I'm not a hardcore gamer. Those monuments are already reserved for those of us with the least of a life.
-
I don't really care about this, as long as I get to play and enjoy the game, that's what matters to me.
-
Thats cool
-
Wonder how many people clicked on this thread because they saw "erect"
-
Normally I don't care about stuff like this but I wish I would be one.
-
How about a dynamic monument that changes based on completion time...
-
Edited by washboat: 8/27/2014 1:29:08 AMA monument won't be the only thing erected when I complete the raid first. Doucwatididthere?
sorry I had to
-
I knew this old man that use to tell me he had an erector set I could play with, then I said "DAD, you're too funny! Those nuts are too small to build anything!"
-
Would much prefer it if they had a monument for fastest time.
-
I think that would be a cool idea. Like have some statues or the completing team with nameplates. But what some people don't get is that the vault of glass won't be accessed till lvl 20 end game content. And even if some hit lvl 20 they may not have the proper gear to clear it. That being said, I don't think a half day head start will hurt too much. Since most people won't be at that lvl or state in that short of time frame. They may start early but may not dedicate the time like others afterwards. Also I'd love to do that, but much rather enjoy the story and leading up concepts rather than rush through to hit that landmark.
-
I'm only about 1/2 way through that!!
-
Ahh.. Every time I hear news about the Vault, it gets better and better.
-
I'm not in it for speed. After all, there's that statistic that most people never get to the end of a game, so just completing the Raid will put me in the happy few. Walking around with whatever sweet loot I get should be reward enough.
-
In order to do a Raid, you have to be level 20. This means that this statue will be rewarding people for no-lifing the game when it first comes out.
-
of course its not gonna be me....it never is
-
There is probably no way to survive a Raid unless you have leveled your guy as high as possible. That being said, the people who have no jobs and are worthless to society will have statues put up of them. At least they get something in life. Ha

Edited by Eternity: 8/27/2014 2:45:56 AMHonestly, I would prefer some kind of constant leaderboards that tracked overall score in some way (e.g. completion time, number of deaths, etc.) - whatever 'monument' they erect will no doubt go to people that have life circumstances which allow them to do nothing but play Destiny for 2 weeks straight (it should be noted that I have nothing at all against such people - wish I had that kind of time myself, I'm just making the point that these 'monuments' will not actually be acknowledging skill, but rather who is able to do the largest binge session when the game first comes out. They will also fail to provide a long term incentive for players to compete against each other). Note: I live in Australia, and voted for 'Who gives a crap?'
-
I think you may be taking it literally, when DeeJ was speaking figuratively. We've heard this kind of speech before from Bungie. I don't think there will be actual monuments displayed, but it would definitely be cool. We'll just have to wait and see.
-
Anyone who is a gamer for a living will finish first. I wish we could have a little monument of our own guardians once we finish
-
Vault of Glass is going to be a bust because of the servers going up 17 hours before many of the clans can play. For the next raid though, my body will be ready.
-
I wanna point out that Bungie had a pro team try to beat the VoG and they didn't finish it, even after 16 hours. So if somebody manages to beat it first day, well done and get a life.
