Yep. Those helmets used some form of force field IIRC. Which is entirely plausible in the Destiny universe. I'd also just appreciate the ability to remove the helmet graphic all together. (explaining it away as using a force field to "cloak" the helmet for aesthetic reasons), and/or allow us to show helmet in tower. Why not just have a universal "show helmet" option?
