Yeeeaaa... This really isn't a really big deal. Sure people can farm for hours to get tones of glimmer, but most items that are pretty good are locked behind certain prerequisites. Ie: reputation of a certain shop, collecting items...
The only thing you can really right out buy is random gear from the item discovery guy and basic weapons from the weapon smith.
Essentially, there doesn't seem to be anything game breaking that you can right out buy...

Every time you level up cryptarch he gives you special items. Even exotic encrypted items. You already know this and so does bungie. This chest farming is how some players had his level up over 30.

So what, they spend hours upon hours farming, you or I spend hours upon hours running raids or strikes, others spend hours upon hours running PvP. We all put in the time doing what we wanted to earn the gear, so what does it matter?
